Martin I purchased this software after testing version 3. I have installed the latest version 4 but it seems when playing a video as an overlay with an alpha channel it isn’t working like version 3 was. The screen goes blank where the alpha part is that should show the current running video. I can use a png file with an alpha channel and it works ok. Is this a bug in version 4? Is so how long do you think it will be before it is corrected?

Hi Greg,
What video format are you using that has an alpha channel? Try changing the Video Renderer in settings -> performance to VMR9 and try opening the video again.

Martin The video format is an avi created by after effects. The same file worked on version 3 of vmix. The video renderer is already set to VMR9

Are you able to provide a short clip for testing? The test AVI I have works fine in both versions.

Attached is a screenshot from v4 with the overlay video in use. Does this look correct? If you see a full black background on the overlay try the following: 1. Make sure you have the latest v4 version (7.4.0.45) http://vmix.com.au/download.aspx2. Open up the video in vMix. Double click the input to bring up the properties window and go to the Advanced tab. Verify that "vMix Alpha Converter" and "Video Mixing Renderer 9" are in the list. 3. If it is still not working, let me know what graphics card you have. Thanks, Martin vMix admin attached the following image(s): vMix Capture 17 July 2012 13-27-57.png (179kb) downloaded 16 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register.

Martin The screen only shows the touchdown file. The part that is alpha which should let the underlying video show through is black. The video continues to play, it is just the alpha part isn't working. The version is the latest 7.4.0.45 The vMix Alpha Converter and Video Mixing Renderer 9 are in the properties. The graphics card is a Quadro 1000m in a Lenovo W520 PC. It also has on board graphics but the pc is set to use the Quadro when VMix is running. This file and others like it were working ok with the version 3.
I would like to get this worked out before the end of the month. I am going to be using it to do a live PPV MMA fight over the internet.
Thanks Greg

Could you go to vMix Settings and click Export to save a copy of the config file and send that file using https://fileobject.com/That way I can load the exact settings here to see if that is causing it.

Hi Greg,
I have the link, thanks. So far I have not been able to re-create the issue on the 4 test machines i've tried. All run windows 7 with the following specs:
Core i5 with Nvidia GTX 560 Core i7 with Radeon HD Laptop with Core i5 and Integrated Graphics + Nvidia (tested on both) Core 2 Quad with Integrated G45 graphics
My guess is there is some software or drivers installed on your laptop that is interfering with the way vMix presents the overlay. In v3 the overlay was done through a "fixed pipeline" which is not very flexible and prevented us from adding features like virtual sets. In v4 everything is done through pixel shaders which should work on any graphics card after 2005.
My suggestion at this point would be to try and update your graphics card to the latest drivers. Also try and switch vMix to use the integrated graphics instead to see if the result is any different.
Regards,
Martin

I have the latest graphics driver. I will try the integrated graphics to see ifit is any different. Did the integrated graphics work properly on your test machine or did they fail as well?

In all the test machines and combinations of graphics hardware I could think of the overlay worked fine.

Martin I have purchased a larger hard drive and trying to reinstall everything on my pc and correct this overlay problem. I have had the program to come up and have me to activate the program 3 or 4 times. It works each time but how do I get it to keep the key number? I may not always be where I have internet acess to activate it.

Martin After installing everything on the new hard drive the alpha channel is working properly. I am still using the same graphics card driver which is the latest at this time.
Thanks for all the help. Greg
