Vmix will doesn't load all the video of your playlistin memory. Whatever you use 32 or 64 Gb, as we do no recording, there is no issue. For your graphic card, make your choice according your budget, More powerful one its not necessary. I know a church where I set a similar project, they are streaming 24/7 with Vmix on HD. The Computer do not make any record, only streaming. We use an I5 with 16 Gb of Memory under Windows 7. If we read you carrefully if you want stability and reability in your case, my advice is to install Windows, update it, set Vmix and its component, and some software you may use, Stop if possible all Windows update after that. And use your system. Rgds C. keglevich wrote:Dear community,
we're using vMix for quite some time and we're pretty satisfied with all the options the program has to offer. However, we have some kind of older hardware and we're experiencing performance issues now and then. We're not sure if they're related to graphics card, CPU, RAM, etc. Therefore we decided to buy a decent new machine, but we before buying it there are some unclear questions I'd like to have answered. We're using vMix for streaming our own 24/7 music production internet TV; the playlist is mostly combined out of 720p or 1080p MP4 files, and there are some additional features added to most of those files (logo on screen, some subtitles, some 4:3 -> 16:9 resizings, etc.) so the live stream is the best possible. The number of files on playlist is somewhere between 500 and 1000, depends on time and day. The new (planned) hardware is as follows:
i7 4790k, decent motherboard, 32GB or 64GB DDR3/DDR4 RAM, Geforce GTX 960 or 970, 120GB SSD for system and 3TB 7200rpm drives for storage.
Here I'd have two questions:
1. Is there any advantage of having 64GB instead of 32GB RAM in that kind of system for our "huge" playlists? Is the RAM actually adrdessed over 32GB or there's no need for that kind of memory config? The question is pretty important as 64GB RAM (16GB x 4) is currently really expensive option.
2. Is there any advantage of using GTX 970 over GTX 960 for our setup? There's no recording, just constant 24/7 live stream in 720p or 1080p mp4 quality. Lastly, is there a need for that kinf of graphics card at all or should we go with something cheaper in the end?
That's actually more or less everything I'd like to know before going on with the project. Our main concern is stability and constant quality of live stream. If there's a need to spend a few (hundred) EUR more for the needed setup, we'll just do so in the end. But before doing anything, I'd like to get some real opinions from users with similar setups and similar (huge) playlists.
Best regards!
