I tried using the firewire output from my camera into a firewire card into computer, then vMix. There was like a 70ms latency. Why? Would a firewire 800 card help? Is there anyway to use the firewire output from camera without latency?

The camera is a Sony-HVR Z7U.

Thanks.

It states in Supported Hardware that "HDV and DV formats introduce a half second delay". So maybe Firewire 800 would cut it down to 35ms of latency, but here would still be some.

Your Sony does have an HDMI output, but if you can only capture using Firewire, you can try compensating with Delay in audio settings.

Ya, it has HDMI out and I am using that via a blackmagic Shuttle 2 to send HD over SDI to my Blackmagic Quad. If I could have gotten better results from Firewire I could save the expense of another Shuttle. The Shuttle allows for both redundant recording and conversion from HDMI to SDI.

Thanks for the reply.
