Having just completed a 7 day festival using vMix for up to 5 shows a day, there are things I began to wish I had. #1 was more and better monitor real estate. I built my system fully rack mounted including the monitor, which is a 19". This is great for working on the PC, but crappy for working with vMix. I can't really see if camera's are focused, nor can I see all of the inputs and have to scroll. If the best output on vMix is the second video card output, then is it possible to use a three headed video card and output to a larger monitor for mixing? How about using a large screen TV via HDMI? What are others using?

One of the reasons I went with the Blackmagic Quad, was to get away from HDMI which is a crappy non-locking interconnect. I wanted to go fully HD-SDI, but could not due to the delay on the SDI outputs of the Quad. 68 ms to be exact. So I used a HDMI over Cat5e to send signal. It worked, but is not how I would like to operate. I use my system live on different sites. This is not an installation, thus I'm moving around all the time. Any suggestions?

hi !

Get a good nvidia card first. GTX960 4 gigs of ram , with 4 digital outs.
dont use capture cards to output video.... it has too much latency...
get a HDMI to SDI converter and a sdi to hdmi near the tvs for example...
connect it on one of the hdmi or displayport outs of the graphic card.
this way the latency is as low as it gets. the same or better than a atem...
i have 80 meters of hdmi cable . no loss , no problems. not using cat5 extenders.
most of them can have latency because it compresses the signal....

Cheers,

My projector has HDBaseT. Some high end ones do, look out for the port on the back looks like a Cat5.

It's low latency and runs over CAT5. Never drops out @ 80m cable runs.

So I had to buy a HDMI --> HDBaseT converter for the computer.

Then straight into the projector.

HDBaseT is a step up from most Cat5 extenders in my experience.

I've had plenty of failures on regular HDMI via Cat5e extenders and seen much more artifacts and signs of compression.

We always use dual monitors, one with the full screen output, the other with vmix.

For the least delay: videocard output (make sure to hide the cursor on the full screen output). Wireless hdmi can be a huge timesaver here if the signal needs to travel far. We use a amimon connex unit for that.
