Dear Friends

I have switched Vmix to new laptop (Toshiba R830) which is i7-2620M CPU@2.7GHz & Ram of 8 GB from my assembled desktop having AMD FX-8320-Eight-Core Processor 3.5 GHz.
My problem is that very high quantity of frames are dropping on my laptop while doing desktop recording although no such droppage was there on desktop. Also CPU usage was increased to 27-28% on new laptop.

I have already checked ping…there was no droppage in ping between 2 pcs. Despite this I have changed 2-3 Lan cables but problem was faced in all of them.
Following is a file of details of just one minute recording on new laptop:

@ parag_ca

Despite your extensive list of the Laptop's details, it is rather vague on the specifics of the graphics card other that it is "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family".
vMix relies heavily on 'video gaming' technology in graphics cards in order to perform well.
Although your Toshiba might meet the 'minimum' requirements for gaming, it may be slightly underpowered for most sophisticated games.
Similarly with vMix, it is likely that you are experiencing the performance limitations of your system, it's a powerful little unit, but a Dual-Core is just not designed to process HD video as well as you could with your Eight-Core desktop unit.

I found that you still need to have a decent Processor for great image quality/stability/frame rate.
I went from an i7-920 processor running 2.8GHz to a Xeon x5680 running at 3.6GHz, and it also added 4 additional processor threads. This was a sizable improvement to performance.

My i7-920 was a first generation i7 released in October 2008. The Xeon I replaced it with was 2 years newer tech. Faster, More cores, more efficient.

See the difference here...
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/...680-vs-Intel-Core-i7-920

You dropped from a 3.5gHz processor to a 2.7GHz processor. You might see some performance gain going from AMD to Intel, but you lost that and more in the clock speed difference. On the Intel, each core on the i7 processor does hyper-threading, so in effect you have 8 cores. You had 8 cores on the old AMD processor, but I can't say if AMD does the same. If it does, then you traded down 8 cores as well. If not, then you have equal cores.

Now look at your processors...
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/...-i7-2620M-vs-AMD-FX-8320
and here...
http://www.cpu-world.com..._i7-2620M_%28PGA%29.html
http://cpu.userbenchmark...-AMD-FX-8320E/m643vs2985
and finally here...
http://versus.com/en/amd...0-vs-intel-core-i7-2620m

The old AMD processor was the better processor between the 2. Even with the i7 was a 2 core processor. (that's not right BTW)

You have put more load on your processor with this "Downgrade".

Missed that part. Just used my own experience in CPU dropping from >75% CPU usage on the i7-920 to the <35% usage on the new Xeon x5680 processor on the same system. Of course neither of those CPUs had internal GFX.

I would agree that the internal Intel GPU is not as good as NVidia GFX. This comes from a guy that dedicated 25 years to using AMD graphics. Currently running my first NVidia card, an EVGA Geforce GTX 660 in my desktop system using the Xeon CPU.

to be honest i must say i was once surprised that intels internal couldn't cope.
i added a videocard once mid production as a last resort when performance was poor on a tiny production and that helped a lot (a card that wasn't that much better specced than the internal intel one)

i now even build my systems with a slightly smaller cpu (i5) to have more budget for a gpu (usually gtx-something)

Thanks a lot to all of you for your reply.
Now I am forced to switch back to desktop :(
Actually problem is that it is very difficult to shift a laptop on daily basis for recording at different locations. This was the only reason I was switching to laptop from desktop. Is there a laptop which have desired configurations of VMix.

The laptops linked below are specified by vMix for their vMix Thunder capture card/box/software bundle. They should handle anything you can throw at it. I have the ASUS ROG GTX751JT and it will handle 4 cameras @ 720p, stream & record.

Now I am forced to switch back to desktop :(
Actually problem is that it is very difficult to shift a laptop on daily basis for recording at different locations. This was the only reason I was switching to laptop from desktop. Is there a laptop which have desired configurations of VMix.

This is the one I use: http://amzn.com/B00O4ORZZQ
I am very happy with this laptop. However, I am still limited to 3 cameras (using Magwell HDMI>USB capture cards).

For a small setup I take the laptop. For multiple cameras, Multiple sound inputs (using Behringer XR18 which I love!), I just haul the Desktop around. I rigged up some straps with a long strap to lift it up and down pressbox ladders :)

Thanks a ton to all of you for all your support.

My problem of drop frame is resolved when I have changed size to any size below 1920x1080

I will be highly obliged if you can help me in few more things.

My main purpose of using VMix is only to do remote desktop capturing from single remote laptop. Resolution of Remote Laptop is 1280x800 which changes to 1024x768 as soon as I attach projector to my remote laptop. Please guide me that what size, frame rate & bit rate I shall optimally set in my main laptop (i.e. laptop on which I have VMix). I want to do recordings in MPEG-2 with file format as TS.

Plz excuse me for my lack of knowledge.

@ parag_ca

What is the ultimate purpose/destination of your final product?
Typically, re-scaling at any point in the process requires CPU computations, so minimizing that during live vMix processing might help to smooth out the acquisition, but may increase finalization processes depending on what you are doing and what you want the final output to be.
I find 1280x720 to be the moderate compromise for producing HD content.

@ice

I am teacher and needs vmix for just capturing my laptop's screen. I record my face by a camera (on sd card) & captures my laptop's screen on vmix on remote laptop (via LAN). Actually I am very handy with my current laptop (i3) hence neither I can change it nor I can record on same i3 laptop because my stylus don't work smoothly while recording. One of class is

After deliberately doing 2 separate recordings, I do editing in different layouts (e.g. picture in picture, croma key, etc.) depending upon needs to explain the concepts. While teaching (i.e. face-to-face) I don't need any live effects bcz students can see me standing and projector screen on my side but I want effects (using editing software like Edius) in my recording for recorded batch.

Resolution of i3 Laptop is 1280x800 which changes to 1024x768 as soon as I attach projector to my laptop.
From this time I am planning to take do recording in 30fps in HighJPEG but I am confused that when my i3 laptop's screen size is just 1024x768 so is there any logic of recording in any resolution other than 1024X768. I mean if I record in 1280x720 then will my quality be better in a situation when my i3 laptop's screen size is just 1024x768. I can't record my in 1920x1080 bcz of new recording laptop (Toshiba R830) gives a very high droppage (as discussed in above messages).
