hi martin,

i tried to setting this final vmix v3 at stream pc and founded some issues:

1. MKV recording - no common media founded behind pins (something like that...) error report sended.
2. HDV inputs always using vmr9, doesn`t matter the video decoder, even if i set EVR as main render.
3. HDV sources are every time dropping frames with every video decoder. i tried a lot of decoders and the final result is always the same, dropped frames. it is not happening when using other softwares (hdvsplit 0.77 beta and nero vision 5, for example, they are working perfectly at same time) to capture 2 hdv sources at same time. so, is there recomendations from you about that?
hope that issues can be fixed...

by the way, this new v3 have a lot of great improvements. martin, i believe in your job. you are making a great piece of code with vmix. thank you for that.
regards,
melody

Hi Melody,

1. MKV Recording, were you using the DV Encoder? MKV does not support the DV format. If not, what codec was selected?
2. This is by design, EVR does not properly support HDV.
3. Could you provide a short clip of the dropped frames with HDV using v3.
Note that all HDV consumer cameras have been discontinued in most markets so perhaps it is time to move to some newer technology?
The reason I suggest this is there are many shortcomings in the HDV format that make it very difficult to support in live productions.

Regards,

Martin

My original intention was to use 2 HDV cams with vMix, but after encountering numerous problems, including dropped frames, I tried the same setup with Wirecast and VidBlaster. The results are identical. So obviously, the fault is not with vMix.

Hi Buzz,

Please let me know the full error message. I do not see the error report so there may be an internet connection issue preventing the registration?

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Melody,

As an update. I have identified a way of fixing up the HDV frame rate so there are no longer any dropped frames.
The next release of vMix (v4) will include this fix.

Thanks,

Martin

hi martin, sorry for the delay...

1. sorry, my bad... tried MKV recording with MJPEG compressor and XVID mpeg-4 and it works nice. is there a way for me to integrate x264, once we have MKV container?
2. ok, i didn`t knew that.
3. thank you topbunk for your post. i thought was only my problem. let`s martin work on v4, looking forward on it.

about the clip, can i simply record with my settings or do you want a specific settings to improve your investigation?

martin, you are 100% correct about move to some recent technology, we are working on that way BUT as a non-profits organization church we have some priorities for now. so for now is not the best moment to invest on a best interface.

thank you anyway for this new update on v4. take your time on it.

melody

Hi Melody,

I was able to re-create the issue with an old HDV camera so a sample recording is no longer required.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Martin,

First of all congrats with you awesome product!

It think I found a little bug.
When you only change the "Zoom Y" on an input, the image is affected, but the dialog does not remember the setting.
So the next time you open the "input" dialog, the "Zoom Y" slider is back in the center.
The strange thing is that is works perfect for "Zoom X" or "Zoom", but fails for "Zoom Y".

Perhaps a nice feature for a next release would be a textbox next to the slider, so you can enter a certain value.
This could (if posible) allow users to enter a more precise value, which would be nice, especially for the zoom.

Regards,
Pieter

Im installing a new site with vMix and we are using a couple of BM Intensity Pro.
Under Capture tab I now see "Blackmagic WDM Capture" and "Decklink Video Capture" for each card. Which one should be used with vMix (because both of them seem to work) ?

Dundurs

Hi Dundurs,

The Blackmagic WDM Capture device is something new they have added with the latest drivers.
It supports only a single fixed resolution which needs to be set from the BlackMagic control panel.
Other than that it should work fine but as it is a new driver feature my it may not be as stable as the old Decklink option.

Martin

Regarding the new BM driver, I have been testing version 9.5.2 and after a couple of days the computer froze (running vMix, FMLE and desktop catpure server) with no messages in event viewer. I returned back to 9.0 and now everything has been running smoothly for at least 72h.

By the way, is there a way to assign a shortcut for "input audio on" function and not "off"? We have attached a controler (touchpad) and must make sure that audio will only be turned on and not off by a mistake.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the v3 update: I notice you have included my points, especially the one for the cursor on the remote desktop: thanks.

By the way: you have to update the remote computers version as well in order to have the external input to work. But the find button is really a great help.

Looking forward to v4 aswell...

Hi,

I encounter a very strange bug with v3 :
- I can see my videos playing in the input bar;
- I can see them if I press the "Preview" button under each in the input bar
- ... but no output in the main "Preview" window (top-left), the "Output window" (top-right), nor on my secondary display (when "fullscreen" activated), just a black screen, even though everything else seems OK (I can see the title of the video in the title bars of these windows, the cursor under the windows is moving, "Restart" and "Play" button react...).

When I switch back to v2 version (uninstalling v3 - reinstalling v2), everything works fine.

Is this a known issue ? Is there a workaround ?

NB : I use "Basic Edition" (I could not activate the full trial, but I guess it's because I tried the v2 a few months ago, so I don't think it's an issue), 7.3.0.86, on a Windows XP SP3 laptop.

By the way, thanks for this very interesting software, the v2 lacked some (few !) functionalities I needed, and I had some crashes when evaluating, that's why I wanted to test v3 release, but still it is very promising, keep up !!

Hi Martin,

Thanks for answering. I tried v4... but same result :
* visualization OK in "input bar" and if I click on "Preview" in the input bar
* black screen in the input window, and in the output window / even though the cursor under the windows is moving, etc.
* everything ok if I switch back to v2, with the same video file.

I just found something more : if I use a "jpg" photo instead of a video, everything works fine, I can see it in every window.

Do you have any idea ? I tried a lot of things, modifying settings, etc, but I could not get it to work. Very strange... and very disappointing ! But still, this software seems to be really amazing, and I hope I can use a future version.

Regards,

Emmanuel
