Can anybody help me with transparency with flash. I have several flash objects with full alpha channel which render perfectly on Caspar CG and other CG platforms. However on VMIX they only seem to render with one bit of Alpha channel - i.e on or off. As these flash objects fade in and fade out as part of the object they look really dirty.

Am I doing something wrong? or does VMIX have a flash transparency problem.

All The Best

@ kgoodyer

Although vMix "supports" single input Flash, I suspect that it is a sort of 'basic' alpha channel support when it comes to transparencies as they are not always "clean" when less than 100%, depending on how they were created in Flash.
You can play with the 'Luma Key' (Colour Key in Settings) to help clean things up a little.

For best results, you will likely have to run fill and key channels to clean it up perfectly, although I have not ventured down that road yet.

Hi,

I have just tested to confirm that semi-transparent flash files display correctly in vMix.
If you are having issues, email the swf file to info@vmix.com.au and I will run some tests.

Thanks,

Martin

@ Martin

I am not a Flash expert, but I suspect that the 'cleanliness' of the transparency has something to do with how it is "created" in Flash.
Although these go back a few years, I suggest testing out some of these files supplied by AmbotZ in this thread if you don't have them already:

http://forums.vmix.com.a....aspx?g=posts&t=1139

Perhaps you or someone can confirm, one way or the other, that you need to export or create swf movies in a particular way in order to preserve proper transparency characteristics, but for me some files have black bleeding through the transparency.

The transparency on the file downloaded here is working fine in vMix 15:

http://forums.vmix.com.a...osts&m=5316#post5316

I suspect maybe an old version of Flash Player is installed on systems where it is black.
Make sure the latest Flash for Internet Explorer 64bit is installed.

Question:

How do I know or confirm which version of Flash Player vMix is using?

I have the latest v.18 installed for IE but it would seem my 'system' Flash Player (Adobe Production Suite CS5) uses v.10 and does not appear to have an 'up-date' option.
I am looking into this @ Adobe as well but thought I would post here as I get to the bottom of this.
The above 'AmbotZ_animated_sample01.swf' file plays in a lower 3rd black box for me in vMix and a Black screen in the player (AFAIK the black should all be transparent).
Other .swf files that do play 'clean' for me, play back on a white screen in the player and why I figured they are rendered differently when created in Flash.

@ Martin

Can you confirm that there is no 'black box' in the above .swf file and/or which version vMix is possibly using on my system?

Update:

As near as I can figure, the Flash Player installed with Flash Professional CS5 for use in viewing and testing .swf files is not 'updateable':

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/702964
http://blogs.adobe.com/r...h-pro-cs5-and-cs5-5.html

However, all other Flash Players on my system are current (according to Adobe system check)
UserPostedImage

And so I can only assume that vMix is also most likely to use the most updated version ???

In any event, any of the .swf files that I have that have animated elements with 'alpha' channel semi-transparencies (on black screened player) all exhibit some form of 'non-transparency' as evidenced in this picture where the elements of the star animation are obviously not transparent.

UserPostedImage

The image can be partially cleaned up with a "Luma Key" adjustment, but it is not the ideal solution.

UserPostedImage

I hope that helps to clarify the "issue" that I (and others possibly) have with .swf animation transparencies.
Hopefully this is just a 'glitch' somewhere in my system that can be 'identified' or discovered and rectified (as with other 'anomalies' I have experienced with vMix recently http://forums.vmix.com.a....aspx?g=posts&t=3837 that I have yet to resolve)

Hi Ice,

Could you provide that flash file you have used in that screenshot?
Also the dynamic overlay was fixed in a recent update, make sure the latest vMix 15 is installed.

Regards,

Martin

@ Martin

File sent via email...
Also, can you confirm that the AmbotZ file should not play out like this:

UserPostedImage

but rather should look more like this by default?
(cleaned up with "Luma Key" adjustment)

Ice

(I can also confirm that vMix 15.0.0.88 Dynamically updates images as described. yay!)

I can confirm the second AmbotZ file you have posted works correctly on my machine (no black outlines or backgrounds).

Could you try some of these files with CasparCG to see if they work there?
Best I can tell Flash Player has some bugs on some machines, so I would only be able to look into fixing problems with flash
files that play correctly in CasparCG as we both use the same player.

Martin

Just tested on another machine with the black background.
This turns out to be caused by ClearType being enabled in Windows. Disabling this will cause the text to render correctly.
This is also mentioned in the CasparCG documentation, so my guess it is a flash player bug that can't be fixed.

Thanks Martin for your time and input on this.

I can confirm that disabling Aero Themes and ClearType has 'cured' the issue with the AmbotZ flash file (lower third above), but not with the valkanela flash file (animated star above) that I forwarded to you by email, which leads me to believe that it may also have something to do with how it was created in Flash, unless of course it plays as 'expected' for you. Not a major issue, but it would be nice to know the root cause.
