Hello,

Using vMix 4K 15.0.0.81 x64 - Supermicro X10Sll-F
We have 4k running on an identical motherboard using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro for audio with no issues.

We just purchased a Magewell XI104AE (4 SD BNC inputs, 1 VGA input & 2 stereo RCA inputs).
http://www.magewell.com/...ae/xi104ae_features.html

The audio inputs are extremely noisy. Bad bad hiss, and this is without the dongle attached to the card so nothing external causing it. As soon as I add the audio input(s) to vMix you can see the hiss on the meters and certainly hear it.

Does anyone have experience with this Magewell card or Magewell cards in general and analog audio inputs? Good or bad? This is a major bummer as otherwise the card works great.

Thanks,
Jim

A follow up from Magewell support for all of you on the edge of your seat wondering....

Hi Jim,

Glad to know you.
I'm sorry for replying you so late.
Because of the chip compatibility issue, XI104AE has the audio noise problem.
Maybe we have no way to resolve it.
Would you tell me more informations about your application scenarious ?
Maybe I can recommend suitable solutions for you.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks.

Best Regards,

aaaannnndd.. final response after I sent him system specs and asked if it was a combination of certain chipsets. Posted for research and archival purposes.

You can see the one clean channel of audio he is speaking of in the pics.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the detail information.
The issue is caused by the interface chip in card.
Most of our products are used to capture digital signal,
such as HDMI, SDI, DVI, etc. Some products can be used
to capture one channel analog signal (include video and audio).
But we have no suitable product to capture two channels analog signal.
I'm sorry about it.

Best Regards,

@ Jim_C

That doesn't quite match what the Tech Specs say on their website:
Analog Audio Input : Dual Analog dual track audio signal

http://www.magewell.com/...04ae_specifications.html

So it would seem there is a "flaw" somewhere.
Does the break-out cable not have 2 x L&R RCA audio inputs as described?
It seems odd that they would build and ship something that they "have no suitable product" to do.

My guess is that it is either a malfunctioning card or an oversight on their part on the firmware and/or technical design of their product.
Either way, that does not appear to me to be a suitable response for a product that does not perform as advertised.
I can appreciate that they are a relatively 'new' player in the 'game' and may be experiencing some "growing pains" along the way, but they'll have to "up their game" a little more on this one.
I would try to push the issue further if I were you.

Hi Jim,

I've had nothing but good experience with Magewell, but I don't use them for sound generally as I use a Roland Tri-Capture device for that. I usually see via HDMI or SDI capture the sound doesn't have any his or background noise. (Right before I turn the audio from the cameras off).

Once only I was forced to use the Camera as a sound source and it was great coming through the Magewell via SDI. (Don't ask was a bad audio day).

The microphone in the Camera, well it was what I expected, nothing super.

This doesn't help your situation much at all, as every Magewell device I own has Digital audio inputs. 99% of the time I'm just capturing off a mixing desk the little Roland device which has XLR, RCA and 1/4 Jack Inputs (so works with many different sound guys who like different cables) and extra control so the streaming can be adjusted to a different level to the in house audio. (with a knob)

The Cameras are often a long way from where the streaming and sound guy lives.

Regards,

Speegs

There is and yes it sure does.

It sure doesn't.

Thanks, yea this card is a bit of a boutique item with most everything now digital. I've seen some people mention using the Magewell 6 input SD analog card successfully with no mention of audio buzz sooo.. not sure what's up.

Magewell makes some interesting hybrid cards that would be perfect for our situations
