there we go again: what's in store with win 10

just noticed the icon today asking me to upgrade to windows 10.
Searched the forum for any mentions, but did not find any. Any experience and do don't s etc.
last upgrade to 8 was a diaster, prefer to use win 7. but will all tjis start again with 10 or can we expect heaven (...).
Martin, any experience or testing going on? what about codecs, drivers, etc.

There were a lot of great improvements in Windows 8.x with regards to graphics performance, particularly with multiple displays
and MP4 recording but I understand many are hesitant due to the lack of start menu and other interface changes.
My hope is Windows 10 will solve a lot of these concerns and get more users upgrading, as I would like to see
as many vMix customers as possible upgrade!
The only downside I see so far is it looks like MPEG-2 support is being completely removed from Windows 10 with no option to purchase
it via the Media Center pack (which is also being removed).
So I might look at expanded the MP4 recording options in vMix instead.
That said, so far Windows 10 is looking great and vMix 15 will work with it straight away.

One freeware program (Classic Shell) and five minutes of configuration and Win 8 feels, looks and behaves like Win 7. What's so complicated about this? I will never understand.

I have it installed and even did a long recording with it (10 hours). Had no problems at all, super stable.
The interface has improved a lot compared to windows 8. I think this could be a winner.

hi Martin,
the mpeg2 issue is exactly what I was worried about. mpeg2 offers some real benefits for post processing: it allows me to quickly edit and cut long recordings into single presentations without having to render. So a 4 hour recording with 8 to 10 presentations can be cut within 30 minutes into 8 single parts, cut exactly at the point where I want it.
mp4 gives me a lot of isues: the win 8 version i can import into fcpx for editing and cutting but the win7 mp4 will only load after a resample....
guess I will stick to using win8 untill there is a quick edit option based on a codec compatible with mpeg2.
but will try things out on a test machine, in order to get the workflow up and running. I don't want to be stuck with win 7 win 8 and win10 machines, different codecs, drivers, updates for blackmagic cards and shuttles,
so might have to dump mpeg2 in the end... go completely to using mp4.
is there any way to fine tune mp4, set key frames etc within windows itself?

mp4 is h264..... heavy and limited for post....
vMix was created from the gpu gaming technology.
windows 10 will bring directX 12
there are already DX12 native graphic cards...
the new dx12 has many improvements. but it will take time for progammers to get it the full potencial.
if you dont want to use an external program to record, use gopro Cineform HD codec or Grass Valley HQX Codec.
They are free , cpu Light for editing , and very high quality. better than standard mpeg 2.

I have the latest vMix running on Windows 10 tech preview build 10130 currently, and haven't found any issues with it.
Very happy so far!
Of course 10 is still beta, and I have had issues with it and Vegas pro 13... Each time I update Win10, I am forced to uninstall, and re-install SVP because the update removed a necessary file for SVP. I'm hoping that will get resolved before the next update. I really don't like having to re-license the software each time this happens.

Hi ! Vmix 15.0.0.87 test with Windows 10 pro beta 10159 64 bits. the good : very smooth and stable the bad : tally COM not working. on Arduino. vmix tally driver and arduino latest drivers all installed , no errors but it gets on com port : ConnectError magewell quad hdmi card quadcore i7 3.6 ghz 16 gigs of ram nvidia 750GTX another info : Cineform only works on vMix 32 bit . latest version 2.5.5 , but it has a great feature : Cineform Raw, about 1.3 gigs per minute, but with great video quality. i guess this might be the best alternative to mpeg 2 : http://decklinkcapture.blogspot.in/Best regards, PFBM
