MXF is a professional Broadcast Container !
AVI , .TS and MPEG is not..... :(

I agree that supporting the MXF container would likely be a move forward for vMix, although, I am not so sure that there is complete adoption of the "Standard" across all parties involved:

I'm not going to pretend to understand a lot of this stuff, but each broadcast equipment manufacturer has appeared to have developed their own flavor or iteration of MXF and although generally supported by major post production workflows, AFAIK, it does not appear to be a "Standard" or "professional" output from said workflows, which begs the question, what flavor, if any, would best benefit vMix users?

Yes MXF is now standard on all major video editing systems.

Avid Media composer
Adobe premiere Pro
Final cut pro X
sony vegas
edius
and so on..... :)

avi is not good for OSX workflows
mov is sticked to osx on recording mode....
.ts does not work on some video editing progs...
we need to have alternatives do avoid transcode as much as possible....
MXF has many flavours , yes , but XDCAM EX HD 50 megabit 422 MXF has no problem on any system you can get hands on ...
and also it has 1 video track and 8 audio tracks capability. if you want :)

After looking into it, big +1 for this. Mxf looks like the most versatile and professional codec that could be added. It's also cross platform. If all the flavours can be selected it would be a big winner.

Remember that MXF is not a codec , it´s a container just like AVI and MOV.
But better equipped for professional use.

Material eXchange Format (MXF) is a container format for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards.

That´s why it is a must for vMix recording module ( multicorder and mix output )

From reading the article it seems that there are at least four or five variants of the MXF container, each proprietary. Each container then supports/contains different codecs. My guess is that each one of these will attract a licencing fee which then impacts on the base cost of vMix and/or any other tool. I would prefer Martin to support the most common codecs/containers used and suggest that if you have particular one-off needs for a recording format that you invest in the appropriate transcoding tool.

Well....

vMix Is growing day by day . Getting better in each version.
vMis pro is more expensive because it has more features.
Why not let vMix grow even better to professional standards ?....
And by the way...
transcode always degrade the video quality... is that what we want ? :)
yes i use adobe premiere pro that "eats" vMis recordings without any transcode.
but what about avid media composer and final cut pro X for example ?
AVI TS MKV and Mpeg are not really cross platform containers.
vMix needs a true crossplatform container compatible.
XDCAM EX HD 422 is one of the most compatible of all .

MXF is... the price to pay for it should not be very high.
Let´s wait for Martin to have a say about this.
