Hey,
I've got this studio webshow project starting up soon. I want to run the show using vMix video/audio software on my Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and record into an external HD. Is that possible or will the workflow suffer big-time? If you have any suggestions for me please let me know. I like saving money, but I'm willing to spend it on quality to support the show.
Also, I want to use a lavalier mic for each anchor (2), and 3 cameras to switch around on vMix. I know vMix can handle recording/syncing the audio and video, my chroma key needs, and a workable interface, but what do I need to buy to send the video and audio information to my computer? Some sort of firewire hub I'm guessing. Right?

Hi Nick,
Unfortunately the MacBook Pro only has one firewire port so only one DV/HDV camera could be used.
(Cameras do not support firewire hubs)
If you had a recent MacBook with Thunderbolt you could use the 2x SDI inputs on the Blackmagic UltraStudio 3D but other than that a
custom built PC is recommend with as many capture cards as required.

Hi Martin
The vMix software is realy cool.
I want bulid a four cameras system.The camera has the HD/SD-SDI output.and I want buy two BMD's UltraStudio 3D that have two channel SDI inputs.I see the new 15" Macbook Pro has two Thunderbolt ports and two USB3.0 ports,It's very usefully.So two camera'SDI connect to UltraStudio 3D,other two camera's SDI connect to two UtraStudio SDI box.One thunderbolt ports for connect EX-Hard Disk,record the Video file.
I worry that this idea is not able to run,Culd you give me some advice?

Hi George, The simplest option to get four cameras into a Thunderbolt enabled laptop would be to purchase a DeckLink quad and install it into the Sonnet Echo Express: http://www.sonnettech.co.../echoexpresschassis.html(Not the SE version which does not support the DeckLink Quad) Keep in mind that Thunderbolt is still very new as far as Windows goes, I am testing the Sonnet Echo Express at the moment and so far so good. I plan to buy the following
hardware:
Apple,MacBook Pro
15.4-inch,2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor
250G SSD
Intel HD Graphics 4000,NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching.
Two Thunderbolt ports (up to 10 Gbps)
Two USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gbps)
BMD DeckLink quad and install it into the Sonnet Echo Express
4 cameras with HD/SD-SDI output.
S.oftware:
windows 7 Pro
vMix 2012 v4 HD version
I am worried that Thunderbolt Port driver. Apple's sales staff told me that the MacBook's Thunderbolt Port are not effective runing on windows 7. I want to know, how do you let vMix running on a MacBook Pro?
