Hey all, has anyone managed to take a GoPro as an input totally wirelessly? Client is looking to have one mounted on a helmet and have us be able to take that as a feed for a live streaming broadcast along with other feeds. We had thought about wireless HDMI transmitters but it needs to be 100% wireless on the camera body. Anyone tried/succeeded with a setup like this?

Last I checked (a couple of years ago) only very low-def live streams were supported - for real HD you had to retrieve the device and download. The GoPro electronics may have improved since, but the larger and more challenging roadblock is having strong wireless throughput to a moving target. A high-gain directional antenna (dish) like from Ubiquity, with someone tracking the camera in motion, may make it possible, but not sure if it's a common enough case for the GoPro to have enhanced the product for.
Another potential problem would be how it streams, i.e. the protocol. For vMix you'd need it to accept incoming RTSP connections (common for security cameras), or to stream out to an RTMP server, which means going through an intermediary streaming server like Wowza. Wowza GoCoder works this way and could be a viable alternative using an iOS device. The main potential issue is that the GoPro's streaming interface may be exclusive to their own apps - you need something standards-based to tie into vMix.
Again, I'm largely out of the loop on what's possible with recent models. Curious what you find out - good luck!

Mike, I have done some extensive research trying to accomplish the same thing. The bottom line is that you will only be able to get good quality feed for streaming from an HDMI transmitter that will take any camera HDMI output and transmit it to a receiver at your vMix production PC. I have purchased the Paralinx Triton and it cost $1400. http://www.bhphotovideo...._triton_1_1_system.html. Everyone that uses this thing seems to be very happy. It will be good for about 1000+' with a booster (400' without). Basically you can do research on what the FPV Rc pilots are doing for video feeds to get some good info. Not sure what kind of sport this is. If feasible, a person could mount the GoPro and the Triton transmitter with a small battery pack to power the Triton. Not feasible. Another option is to pair the GoPro with a smartphone. You would stream the GoPro via the SmartPhone and then you could bring that live feed (stream) into vMix. You have some potential for alot of latency but depending on your situation, it could still be a workable solution if they really want that view. (ie use it for instant replays, etc). Just thinking outside the box for solutions :) Tim
