Hi! Everyone,
My name is Michael Burg, and I am new to live video, video processing... I want to use video for my church's worship. At this time, I am using Microsoft Movie Maker 2.1 on Windows XP Professional SP3. It only allow to edit 1 video at a time. I searched on internet and found Martin, who emailed me about vMix. I downloaded vMix yesterday, but has no clue how to do it. I'd like to do the followings:
MY 1ST WISH 1. Open few video clips in wmv or avi formats as video1, video2, and video3 2. On video1, I can cut 2 holes (like PIP on the TV) 3. Start playing all 3 video clips - video1 as background, video2 displays in cut hole 1 (PIP1), and video3 displays in PIP2 4. The output will be saved on the hard disk as new video clip #4
MY 2ND WISH 1. Instead video1 as a video clip, I'd like to change it to a image file in JPG (from openoffice impress exported as JPG) 2. Cut 2 PIPs on the image 3. Start playing video2 and video3 which will be displayed through PIP1 and PIP2, and the background is the JPG image file 4. Save output to the hard disk as new video clip #4 in wmv or avi formats
I am new to video, your instructions step by step will be very helpful for me and other new users to follow and promote vMix.
Thank you very much.
Michael

Hi Michael,
vMix currently only supports a single picture in picture at a time. To set this up:
1. Add the two inputs you wish to use into vmix. 2. To bring up the input that will be in the background, select it and then click Quick Play. 3. Click the Advanced button then click the Overlay Settings button at the bottom of the window. 4. From the Type dropdown box select Picture In Picture. The sliders can be adjusted to change the size of the picture in picture box. Click OK when done. 5. To bring up the second input as a Picture In Picture, click the small Overlay button underneath the input. It should now show up on top of the first input.
Hope this helps.
Martin

Martin,
It works!!! I will spend more time learning vMix. I looked at Sony Vegas and it is so complicated to use, and the render function to save a 8 minutes video clip take so long and the saved file size is huge.
vMix will save me a lot of time in doing video clips for the church's worship. In the future, would you think of adding more PIPs because the worship has only 30 minutes, and if we shows 2 video clips, 5 min. each, a total of 10 min. So, the PIPs will help a lot and we still have enough time for the worship.
vMix runs on my old Dell Laptop Inspiron 8600! I'd like to see vMix stay that way!
Thank you.

Elchapin, Thank you for the information. I think if you can post your tutorials on vMix will help a lot of users. I don't know Spanish! Can someone translate them into English? I also use K-Lite Codecs Pack, after install it, my Windows XP Movie Maker runs much better. Will vMix think of the use of K-Lite Codecs Pack? www.free-codecs.comWhat is the CUT feature in vMix? Can vMix allow the PIP window in different shapes like circle, etc.? I prefer vMix small, run reliable, easy to use, simple, run on old (not very old) laptops. I downloaded the basic version of vMix, and it works great and meet my need for the church worship. I will eventually pay to get the higher version, but I need to save money for a new better laptop first. If you post your tutorials, please let us know how to get them. Many thanks...!

Hi Michael,
The CUT feature is a transition effect, it simply means the preview input is immediately swapped to the output. The documentation available by clicking the question mark button in vMix, offers a more detailed explanation.
The PIP feature only supports on picture in picture with a square shape as set in Overlay Settings.
Regards,
Martin vMix
