hello,

after few months testing many switcher software, I can tell there is two serious soft in this domain Vmix and cutfour.
Vmix is far away in front position with his advanced possibilities (can't find them even in expencive hardware switcher),

my question is for the Vmix creators :

-can we imagine Vmix with no latency (or not pierceable) one day ?
-is it a hardware problem ? actual Computers capabilities ?

Can you please teach us about the devellopement in this domain.

thanks
Sofiane

Hi,

What cameras are you using? If you are using Firewire then the latency is due to the firewire format and nothing can be done about that.
If you use an Intensity Pro or DeckLink card then the latency is around 1.5 Frames which is equal to professional hardware mixers.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

1.5 Frames that's what I have for the moment with decklink SDI cards :)

-is it relation with latency and the render time ?
-is it possible to optimize Vmix with a better "graphic card" ( I have geforce 9600gt 1go ddr3) ?
-also can you explain me the relation with fps, Backup fps, render time ?

thanks again.

I can't imagine how we could have a processing with a latency of less than one frame ? In audio, even the best DSP cards currently don't have a true zero latency (my SSL system has only 4 samples, and it's probably one of the fastest on earth)

"the best DSP cards currently don't have a true zero latency ", I know that I was studio sound engineer in other life :)

I want just to know the parameter I can change to improve my system with Vmix, to understand what is the limits in different conditions (ex : live mixing with retransmission screen on stage)
-relation between fps, Backup fps, render time.
-is it possible to optimize Vmix with a better "graphic card" ?

thanks again,
Sofiane

Hi,

How are you connecting the output to the screen?
The lowest latency (1.5 to 2 frames) is achieved by using:

1. SDI Camera Input through DeckLink Card
2. Video Output using fullscreen through second output of graphics card.

The second output in windows should be set to the same resolution as the projector or screen it will be displayed on to ensure
the projector or screen does not have to do any scaling (which increases latency)

Martin

"vMix introduces approximately 2 frames of delay between input and output." - quote from vMix help page.

(Iqnoring video camera and projecto delay)

Why is it 2 frames delay for vMix? Please explain.
Can it be reduced? Zero possible?
Which hardware to upgrade to accomplish this?

How does vMix deinterlacing effect delay?
