Hi,
my name is klaus, I live in Germany and I am currently using a computer that can live cut between 6 DV sources. And it records all the source streams plus the mix. I would very much like to test VMix on my machine which is a WinXP System with a quadcore processor and plenty of memory. Can I use avi files from the harddisc as a source or is it possible to use the firewire input?
I am well aware of the limitations that DV input imposes on the system. We are using it to record multicamera events but we do currently not broadcast it live nor do we show it on displays at the time of the event. We are just producing footage which is optimized in the postproduction and then forwarded to the customer on a dvd or usb memory stick.
VMix looks very promising to me so if this doesn´t work I am even thinking of setting up a machine with blackmagic cards to try it out. I have 25 years of experience mainly in the field of TV production and I think it is about time that video production becomes digital in a sense of establishing complete digital systems instead of just replacing analog components by their digital lookalikes. So I would really like to encourage You to go on in the way that You have started.
Best regards Klaus

I have received a lot of requests for DV/FireWire support in vMix (even with the delay) so I will be putting it in to a future release. HDV will probably also be supported if the appropriate codecs are installed.
AVI file loading is already supported.

Hi Martin,
My name is Gordon and I live in Canada and have been doing some research on live mixing with 2 camcorders and capturing to computer hard drive for post production. I also do church events, as well as theater, plays, recitals and it saves many hours doing a live mix. I was using SD camcorders and outputting via FireWire to a stand-alone mixer and capturing to a DV deck. After the event I would load it into my computer in realtime. I am now starting to switch over to HD and are now using HD camcorders to shoot. At the moment HD mixers are very expensive and I would prefer to use a PC (all in one). Attaching 2 HD cameras via firewire and capturing to an external hard drive. I can then take the hard drive and use it with my main post production PC and save many hours of capturing.
Using generic FireWire cards would be cost effective and I would like to see that supported in the vMix system. The layout of the vMix software looks clean and simple and easy to use. It's great to seeing someone has developed software like this. The work you have put into this is awesome. Keep up the good work.
