The problem is, this is not a new issue, as this thread already exists, posting it elsewhere only adds to the confusion.

One thing to point out, if the IP address is changing due to a router reboot, then vMix will eventually reconnect to the new IP
but it may take a while, around 20-30 seconds for the old IP to timeout and the new reconnect to occur, so test that first.

Well, then it should be mentioned in that thread.

Using static IP for the router and vMix PC and the issue is happening.

my point is do not post the same issue in multiple places, keep it to the existing specific topic where one already exists.

The IP of the source is what matters and if it is a mobile device, it is likely changing.
This is why I mentioned testing with other apps. The mobile implementation of discovery is not part of the official OMT libraries, so each app maker essentially has to build their own.
So to isolate if the issue is there or not, recreate the issue using official apps on two computers if possible.

For example, in the above test I did, there is a delay, due to needing to wait for the old IP to timeout properly within discovery, but it does find the new IP, and eventually vMix reconnects.
(after about 20-30 seconds)

Hi. Did some tests thus not yet with the "official" OMT software:

Situation:

Router is ON
iPhone is emitting OMT to the WiFi router
Started vMix
Trying to add an OMT source
OMT stream IS FOUND
Added OMT input (iPhone)
Saved a Preset
Quitted vMix succesfully, renamed the OMT-log file and added the additional info

12/10/2026 14.58.59,[OMTLogging],Log Started
12/10/2026 14.59.13,[OMTDiscoveryWin32],BeginDNSBrowse.OK

Opened the Add Input / OMT/NDI stream Browser

OMT stream IS STILL NOT FOUND - Waited a LONG time - No addditional info created to the log....

Opened multiple times the Add Input / OMT/NDI stream Browser still only one log entry:
is vMix doing Discovery loop at all at this point??

That helps, the error 1222 is a Windows error and is:
"The network is not present or not started."

So currently you will need to make sure the computer is connected to a network of some kind (if only a LAN connected to a switch) prior to starting vMix when using OMT sources.
This is because Windows refuses to start the discovery at all when no network or LAN is available. (with the error 1222)

If later on during the production, the network is unplugged temporarily, then vMix/OMT is able to auto recover as Windows re-establishes discovery automatically in that case.
It is only on startup where this key requirement is needed.

Hi.

That's a bit odd. Why does other software recover from the issue - on Windows - and discover the source and works when vMix not?

What other software, and is it running continuously in the same way?
(Started when nothing is connected and kept running?)

So I just had a quick look, and if you are using an app based on the Rust implementation of OMT.
(Such as by MikanseiLaboratory)

Then Rust has its own discovery API that runs separately from Windows and has its own requirements/features.

vMix uses the standard OMT library which in turn uses the built in Windows discovery API.

There are pros and cons to each approach and each API has its own limitations as a result.

In the case of the Windows version, it is a requirement that a network of some kind be running when starting discovery for the first time in the app.

Yes, the Rust approach is working as it should.. https://github.com/MikanseiLaboratory/omt-community-tools

I'm having difficulties to understand why is it so hard to poll or retry and see if the network is available at the run-time and then when network is available enable/initialize network stuff like OMT(/NDI?)?

In short, the more code that is added to cater to niche situations the more potential there is to create additional bugs for all users.
In general, focusing on the simplest approach tends to result in more reliable software overall.

Plus, I don't think it is an unreasonable requirement to expect there to be a network of some kind when starting vMix!

(Perhaps if you could explain why starting vMix without a network is an important requirement for your use case, this will help us justify the work needed to support such a scenario....)

It's all about reliability and professionality!

This is such an essential and basic thing like being able to get WORKING inputs and outputs in ALL SITUATIONS.
It should be a paramount to a software like vMix..
