Hello everyone,
I would like to share some feedback based on my recent work implementing vMix in broadcast environments here in Brazil.
Recently I have been working on several projects migrating lower thirds and broadcast graphics packages from systems such as Vizrt and Aximmetry to vMix. This type of migration has been growing significantly, especially for productions that are looking for a more flexible and cost-effective solution.
In addition to rebuilding the graphics, I am currently working on implementing MOS integration so that NRCS systems such as Arion and ENPS can communicate with vMix. In this workflow, I configure the graphics templates in vMix and replicate the lower thirds so they can be triggered directly from the newsroom system.
During these implementations we noticed that some common broadcast graphics behaviors are still difficult to reproduce inside GT Designer. Because of that, I would like to suggest a few improvements that could significantly enhance the broadcast graphics workflow in vMix.
Suggested Improvements
1. Text Auto-Fit by CompressionCurrently the shrink option reduces the font size. However, many broadcast graphics systems allow text to compress horizontally to fit inside a predefined area. This is a common behavior for lower thirds and name straps in broadcast systems.
2. Keyframe-Based AnimationAdding the ability to animate elements using keyframes would provide much more control over motion design inside GT Designer. This would allow users to build more advanced animations without relying on external rendering.
3. Dynamic Text Field InteractionAllow text fields to dynamically reposition each other.
Example workflow:NameJob Title
If the name becomes longer, the job title would automatically move to the right or adjust its position accordingly. This behavior is very common in newsroom graphics.
4. More Overlay ChannelsIn complex productions, especially in news environments, we often need to stack multiple graphics layers simultaneously. Increasing the number of overlay channels would provide much more flexibility.
Why this matters
These improvements would make it significantly easier to migrate existing broadcast graphics packages from systems like Vizrt and Aximmetry into vMix. They would also help vMix become an even stronger solution for newsroom workflows, MOS automation, and live broadcast graphics.
Thank you for the continuous development of vMix and the great work on GT Designer.

Hi I have been doing bradcast graaphics in vmix for a while and am now moving away to HMTL/CSS/Java script , espeshley now OGraf is geting some momenntun ,OGraf is an Open specification for HTML based Graphics, used in live television and post production workflows , the EBU have a working group on it https://tech.ebu.ch/groups/html_graphics and more info can be found at https://ograf.ebu.io/

To add an option for more overlays (#4): You can add the graphics in layers of a single shot and activate each layer independently. This way you use one overlay (for the single input) and can use the 9 layers as overlays inside it. Now with 8 overlay channels you could have 8x9 = 72 overlays. I think this is more than enough. Just be creative.

+1 on all of the above! Except for maybe more overlay channels. Since we got eight in version 29 I am pretty much set for now :-)
