Hello, I am looking for any insight and/or tips on how to better playout mov files in vMix. It seems like no matter what I try, I still get inconsistent frame drops sometimes when playing those file types and it happens even more consistent with other codecs like h264/5. The renderer drops seem to be happening randomly. Sometimes I can play the file all the way through with 0 drops and other times I am dropping frames every second. It rarely happens in the middle of playback and I can notice right away in the statistics window if that play out wont be smooth. As a test I would loop these assets and in some loops it will play perfect but other times it drops every second. I've experienced this with multiple machines running vMix all with different internal components.

I've tried just about every flavor of ProRes - LT, HQ, Proxy, 4444 (w/ alpha), and 422. All exported at the same resolution and fps as my vMix project. I typically will try to play these files through a hyperdeck into decklink sdi ports and those run fine but other times I need to play those files in vMix if I need to run transitions/stingers/overlays between assets which has been easier for me to do inside of vMix.

My main vMix machine specs:
mobo - Gigabyte X299 Designare EX-CF
cpu - intel i9-10980XE @ 3GHz
gpu - Nvidia 3080 Ti (ReBar enabled)
RAM - 64GB DDR4 @ 2400MHz (2 x 32GB)
C Drive (vMix install) - Corsair MP510
D Drive (all my show assets) - Samsung 990 Pro

I'm sure I am forgetting to list more important variables but if anyone has info that could get me smooth mov playback in vMix that would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

mov is just a container, saying almost nothing. With ProRes in 444 or even 422 and changing the codec to h264 then you need to look at the profiles and levels. Mainly h.264 is good for HD in 420 with high profile and level 4.1. ProRes is an intraframe format that vMix shoud be able to handle very well. Due to the shire size it could be the drive that the media is on not supporting such rates exceeding sata speeds.
