Hi all, building a pc for 5 camera sports broadcast build, would like to use Decklink Quad 2 because of the 8 I/Os. The specs say the Decklink requires a pcie x8 for best compatibility, and graphics card requires pcie x16 obviously. Can anyone recommend a motherboard that can run both of these? Chipset is of no concern, as I am building the system around the Decklink, so I will pick whatever is compatible with the motherboard. Would a consumer grade dual graphics card mobo work? PCPartpicker says that with many graphics cards, this takes up all the pcie lanes and would restrict the decklink's pcie to x4 which is not acceptable. Thank you!

Most consumer boards / CPUs don't have enough PCIe lanes to actually support an 8x + 16x. However, you'll be perfectly fine running the GPU at 8x.
Most modern motherboards will automatically bifurcate the 16 lanes between the 2 slots. All 16 go to the main slot when you only have a GPU. When you install a card in the second slot, it changes to 8x + 8x.

running 8x + 8x in several topaz type systems. great performance. I do prefer the quadro type workstaion GPU (single slot-A4000ada) over any of the gamer cards

the drop in GPU between x16 and x8 is negligible rtx 4090 - 1080p hd.jpg (28kb) downloaded 10 time(s).so you need to start with an AM5 or LGA 1851 platform that has 24 CPU lanes It just needs to be distributed on the motherboard as follows: PCIe 1 = GPU (x8) PCIe 2 = DeckLink Quad 2 (x8) M2.1 = Windows SSD (x4) M2.2 = Replay Rec SSD (x4) You must consult the motherboard manual before purchasing. examples : Asus ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI (AM5) MSI MPG X670E Carbon Wifi (AM5) ASUS PROART Z890-CREATOR WIFI (LGA 1851) MSI MPG Z890 Carbon Wifi (LGA 1851)
