I have 2 devices activated on my account (previously both were v28).

Today I installed the v29 Beta on one of them and expected to get the usual error message about needing to deactivate one, but it upgraded seamlessly.

I went in anyway to deactivate and reactivate on v29, just to ensure there wouldn't be issues moving forward, but do full number upgrades on the same system no longer count as separate device activations or was there just something weird happening on my end?

This could be related to you only being able to install 1 version of Companion on a system at a time now. Previously (I think v27 and earlier) you could install to multiple different locations, which was nice for beta testing, and even run them concurrently. With the change in v28 I believe it was to where you have no choice of install location and it just overwrites any existing version it could be due to that which allows the key system to realise it's the same machine that was running a previous version and not a separate system.

I recall, though I could be mistaken, still needing to deactivate to switch to 28.

It's been a long time since I've installed a beta but doesn't the beta not count toward your 2 seat limit?

Hi,

Due to the release schedule of vMix 29, it will remain a free update for all those that purchased or upgraded since 1 January 2023.
As this upgrade date has not been changed, you will not receive an activation message when moving from 28 to 29.

Regards,

Martin
