I would like to create inputs that can reconnect automatically to specific app windows. (I am working on Windows 11.)

For example: I create an NDI/Desktop Capture input that connects to PDF-Xchange. Everything is fine as long as I don't close vMix or PDF-Xchange.

However, if I close either vMix or the relevant app, the connection is lost and vMix just directs a generic monitor capture to that input.

As far as I can see, there is no way to make vMix recover the link between the input and the source app automatically. I thought I might reconnect them using a shortcut or script, but I can't find a way to do that either.

Do I really have to reconnect the input to the source app manually every time I restart my computer (or restart vMix), or is there a way to set up the input so that it reconnects automatically? Failing that, is there a way to create a shortcut or script to reconnect to the source app?

I am using vMix HD.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You can capture the entire screen and crop out the window to your liking. This way you have to ensure that the same app is always at the same position.

Thank you for that information, Mavik, that is helpful.

I can see that the method you have outlined can save one having to reconnect the application window manually.

I do notice, though, that the quality of the image is not as good as when one captures the application window directly. It would still be very helpful if that is possible.
