Hey folks. Using a Mixpre 10T audio interface into Reaper. Guitar, vocal mic, sound from my laptop as inputs. (using the headphone out and a 3.5mm TRS to two XLR cables) with FX - I want to output this to vMix to stream. In vMix I can see the ASIO inputs and use them, but this is pre fx. and multiple inputs needed. It would be great to figure out how to send Main L&R from Reaper into vMix. I can monitor from the Mixpre. I have VB Cables and thought this may do it, but can't find a way to do this.
Any help most appreciated.

I figured this out. Had to use another device. I have an iRig stream, and this works. Routing is weird....had to turn off audio outputs in vmix.

I recommend using busses in vMix. Have a look at this video. It could give you some idea of how to route and use vMix with audio I/O devices.

Thank you, but busses don't work. At least not the way I need it to. I have the inputs working in vMix. I can select the ASIO channels and away we go. What I WANT to do is use the main output of Reaper into vMix. On the main channel you can add more outputs, but only to hardware outputs. I want to route this directly into vMix. There is no way to do this. And that's too bad. I have limited inputs into vMix and don't want to pay for more, OR manage all these inputs in vMix, but in Reaper. That I can't do. One stereo input in vMix FROM Reaper mains. I don't believe there's a way to do this. At least I have not found one. The only solution at this point is to use a second device - I have an iRig stream - take the second main outputs of my audio interface, plug it into the iRig, select the iRig as input and now it works exactly the way I want. But it ties up this device which causes other limitations.

How about using a virtual audio cable? In your other program, in the audio output settings, you select the virtual audio cable instead of your speakers as the output. Then in vMix you just add another audio input, which would be the other end of the virtual audio cable.

It's gotta be a plug in like device. Need the ASIO drivers for the inputs. So, I have no idea at this point. Thanks for responding.

Would you care to be more specific why VB Cable won't work? I use it all the time for routing audio into vMix from other programs. It's true it doesn't have a native ASIO driver, but if you really want ASIO (not sure why, vMix doesn't require ASIO) you can use ASIO4ALL, which adds ASIO to any non-ASIO audio driver (like VB Cable).
If it's because of latency, you can add delay in vMix to your video camera inputs to match the latency of the audio.

I am using a combination of live inputs, mic, guitar. Also audio sent to the interface via USB, and audio tracks loaded into Reaper. The only way I can use the VB cables is if I change the ASIO device to only VB cables. Then I have no live inputs. You cannot run two instances of ASIO at once. If there is a work around for this I would be happy to learn how.

I downloaded a trial version of Reaper so I could follow along. Now I see the problem. In Reaper it isn't possible to have inputs via ASIO and output via some other device, such as VB Cable. To do so would require not using ASIO. You would have to use WASAPI or WaveOut in Reaper. Then you could use VB Cable. Now the question becomes, do you actually need to use ASIO for the inputs? Some audio interfaces (not sure about yours) expose the various inputs as regular audio devices in Windows, and don't necessarily require using ASIO to get at all the inputs. Is that a possibility?

I just found something that might work. Reaper installs its own ASIO driver for output, specifically for sending audio to other programs. It's called ReaRoute ASIO, and I think it might not be installed by default. You might need to run the Reaper installer again to enable it.
In Vmix just add an audio input, select ASIO, then select one of the ReaRoute ASIO channels. Then in your Reaper project, for the track that you wish to output to vMix, you send it to one of the ReaRoute ASIO channels. I'm assuming Reaper has a final mix bus where you could add this output.
Chapter 23 in the Reaper user guide details how to do this.

Yes, in Reaper, for the Master track, click the Route button, then select Add New Hardware Output, then select one of the ReaRoute ASIO channels, the same one that you selected in vMix. Audio should now flow from Reaper to vMix

Couldn't wait. Took 5 minutes and was up and running. Will run a full test tomorrow with live inputs. But this seems to work. AWESOME!

Turns out there's a feature that can be installed right into Reaper called ReRoute ASIO. It gives you a whole series of ASIO outputs. AND, you can route the mains to a stereo pair right into vMix....It works. I tired it. Only available for Windows machines and needs to be installed on an Reaper update. WOHOO....two methods. Gonna look at the matrix tomorrow.

Also vMix has added a new feature to grab application audio directly as an input. It might be possible to get away with this. I add Spotify this way to have some background musik.

You find a bit of information here. The steps are - add input - chose audio input - in the dropdown select application audio - from the application dropdown select the targeted app and you should be good to go.
