Blackmagic Camera Input flickers on VMIX. Not lagging but flickers. Really annoying.

Problem only goes away when I set VMIX to run on integrated graphics (Intel) but when set to run on 4080 Nvidia Graphics Card (Laptop), it flickers / stutters.

Camera is fed through via Atem Switcher. No flickering on Atem side. Graphics card updated. New laptop. Didn't have issue on other laptop. Changed cables used to connect Atem to Laptop - same issue.

Other videos I play through VMIX don't flicker just the Blackmagic Camera Input. I've tried a clean VMIX (no other inputs, layers etc.) still the same issue.

Any ideas on what I can check?

@Tizo08

Sounds like an incompatibility issue as outlined in this KB article:

Hey thanks for the response; sorry for the delay.

The following are the workarounds I tried:
- Bought USB-C Thunderbolt 4 cable; did not work.
- HDMI out using Capture Card to feed into computer (suggestion in link posted by IceStream). But its a new thing you have to carry around & additional cables to plug in. Output not always smooth & constantly dropping frames. I needed the HDMI outputs for other things so I didn't go with this option.
- Buy a new laptop (hit & miss) - works on some laptops not others. Issue was not prevalant on an older laptop I had lying around (approx. 1,000 AUD) but is prevanlant on the new laptop I got specifically got for streaming (5,000 AUD)
- Have VMix run on the Integrated CPU Graphics & not Nvidia. Problem here is that you may not have a powerful enough Integrated CPU - I had the i9 Ultra & that was hitting close to 99% GPU memory utlisation on VMIX which is not good as VMix or the laptop might crash if it goes over. Works but concerned about crashes in the middle of a livestream.
- Buy new switcher (Rodecaster Video or Yolobox). Expensive route but leaning towards getting a new switcher.

Hmmm this may be a Vmix issue. I don't get any flicker when I feed the Atem to Zoom or OBS for example. Only in VMix. I also raised a ticket to Blackmagic & they say they haven't seen this issue before. All Chipsets were updated & Atem version downgraded as Blackmagic Support suggested & no fix.

Hi,

Unfortunately this is the ATEM issue as per the Knowledge Base article that impacts some systems for some unknown reasons only Blackmagic can really answer.
The corruption is there in all apps, it's just that vMix is unique in that it attempts to decode the bad frames anyway, even though the end of them is corrupt.
In other applications, these frames are just skipped entirely and look like dropped frames instead.

What this means, is it is not something we can fix, and the only solution would be to use a separate HDMI to USB capture device instead of the ATEM USB output.

Regards,

Martin
