Hello,
I am helping with IT responsibilities at my church and need some guidance on backup best practices for our vMix live stream configuration. We recently updated the vMix version and lost a ton of settings that were previously configured. I want to make sure that we have proper backups of all settings, presets, configurations, etc. to hopefully prevent this in the future. How often does it occur that settings and/or preset mappings change across different versions of vMix?
Note that we also use a StreamDeck XL unit to control certain actions within vMix. After updating the vMix version, all of these settings were also wiped out. Not sure how the StreamDeck XL config was tied to vMix so it was quite a shock to see all of those settings wiped out as well.
After reading the vMix documentation, it appears there are 2 backup functions within the software.
1. Save/Save as Preset/Save as bundle 2. Settings Import/Export/Default
I was unable to find any FAQs or forum posts detailing proper backup procedures. How do you approach this important function within this software? If those 2 options above are the correct backup procedures, can anyone please explain what these options actually do? And is there an automated backup schedule that I can configure within vMix? Or are there any PowerShell scripts that perform these functions?
Any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris. Whever I've done an update of vMix, I try to screen grab all the settings just in case. As far as back-ups, I do a bundle, preset, save exports of "shortcuts" and I save the profile of stream deck. I'm away from my computer right now, but off the top of my heasd that's what I do. I did have one time where I did an update on stream deck ans I lost the mapping on stream deck and had to reconnect each button. I think the button mapping changes when you update the stream deck software. I save all of this to the vMix computer, a flash drave and an extermal drive, especially before making any updates or if I add any inputs or make any other changes to my show. Hope this helps...
