RTX 5080/5090 vs. A5000 for new system build?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to build a new system, we need a second one for multiple productions.

I want to build a powerhouse with even more performance than my current one, so my question is, which GPU I should get, RTX 5080/5090 or A5000?

I'm doing all kind of stuff, most of my shows run with about 80-100 Inputs. Im running multiple BMD Decklink cards, NDI video, Dante, 4k VTs, Gfx etc.

Here is my current system:

ASUS PRO WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI
AMD THREADRIPPER 7960X STR5
GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB
128GB 6000MT/s DDR5 ECC
3x Samsung 990 Pro 2TB


My plan is to upgrade to:

ASUS PRO WS WRX90E-SAGE SE
RTX A5000 or Geforce RTX 5080/5090?
AMD THREADRIPPER PRO 7965WX SP6
Kingston 128GB 6000MT/s DDR5 ECC Reg CL32 DIMM Kit of 4 FURY Renegade Pro EXPO
3x Samsung 990 Pro 2TB

What dou you think about the system?
Any thoughts on RTX50xx vs. A5000?

I guess, RTX50xx is not tested with vmix yet, I'm just thinking about comparing the tech data of both cards. What is the limiting factor, espacially with decoding many SDI/NDI signals?

i run the quadro type workstation cards myself. the gaming cards need 2-4 slot space, 3 or more power connections and have limits on how many hardware encode sessions you can run. the workstation cards only need 1-2 slots, one power connection, and have unlimited encode sessions. I find my A4000 to be more than enough horsepower for the bigger shows I do, usually around 100 inputs, up to 12 SDI captures, and almost always using all 6 output options.

Thank you for your feedback!

How is the fan noise of the A4000? My 4080 is hardly noticable at all, even under extensive load... need to be able to run my system even in small conference rooms with minimum noise

Best price ratio card for vMix would be RTX 4090 RTX 5090. The Quadro Pro would be ideal for Mapping due to their synchronized outputs. But vMix doesn't do mapping ;)

In case of doubt and to be on the safe side, install the one tested by vMix RTX 4080 SUPER indicated by Obtanium reference systems

Attached is a comparative graph table made by me for future systems.

Look at the CUDAS and the Bandwidth mem mainly... And at the price

Thanks for the replay, but I don't actually know what to do with this information.

I see that the 4090 and 5090 have way more CUDA Cores, but does that actually help with vmix? for testing i tried to decode as many 4k NDI streams as possible... im starting to get drops when decoding 5 streams. with HD i can easy encode more then 10.
Does having a GPU with more CUDA cores actually help, or is having unlimeted encode/decode sessions with the A series better?

Also, what about the RTX 4500 Ada? It is in the price range of the A5000 but with less CUDA Cores, slower memory, but still outperforming the A5000?

The more I read, the more confused I am 🙈

To decode NDI the CPU is used.

It doesn't matter which graphics card you have. Unless it's NDI HX.

The basic rule is as many cores as you have, the same amount of NDI HD you can decode. If it's 4K, divide it by 2.

The future 7960X you want to buy has 24 cores, 24 NDI HD or 12 NDI 4K.

What CPU do you currently have?

Sorry, now I understand that you already describe the current and future equipment.

NDI HX seems to be decoded at the graphics card level.

Now it has an RTX 4080, you should improve it in the next computer. An A5000 Ampere seems worse than the current one for pure performance. I would look at, at least, an RTX 4080 SUPER or RTX 5080.

And better a RTX 4090 or RTX 5090
