Ok, 2 weeks into using Vmix and I'm absolutly loving it.

I have got a football grand final to film here in Australia on Sunday and would love to Live stream it.

Tomorrow I will buy a 4G Usb dongle and already have a YouTube account which the local footy fans follow here in Tasmania.

I would so appreciate key tips on what to do in order to get myself up live by 5pm Sunday.

Thanks

Martin.

Hi Martin,
Yes, vMix is lovable ;)

First of all, make sure that you read through YouTube's help pages on their livestreaming service.
Beware of that if you send music, YouTube's content ID system might recognize it, giver your account a "bad standing", and warn you that your stream might be terminated. I think that in order to recognize that warning you have to monitor their control room. Safe thing is to avoid music when using YouTube for live streaming. (As well as other peoples video material, which is likely not something that will encounter on a football match).

Next, as pointed out in the help, test, test, and test. It's in my view a pretty awkward service, so it takes a while to get used to. Last time I played with it (about a week ago) I hade trouble with getting the preview on the control room to work. Might been a YouTube bug...

Beware that if you create a live event, and distribute it's embed code to be published on web pages, that embed code will only show the event ONCE. That is, when you Start the event, and then Stop - there is no way to start the same event again. So, if you want to test a live event, be sure to check it with the control rooms preview and not Start without really meaning that. Of course you can Start the event, check on a web page with a player that it works and then while still haven the event started Output some kind of "We will start at..." sign to the stream.

If the event is Started and your stream (up to YouTube) stops, your event is still on. YouTube will tell the viewers that the stream is down, and as soon you get the stream up again will start showing it. Again, do NOT press Stop event unless you are really done for the event.

If you will use 4G for upstream, prepare for that your available bandwith most likely will be reduced when the stadium gets filled with fans socialising with their smartphones.

Go for it!

my experience a few weeks ago... only one provider had descend service , upload reasonable but downoad was at times zero because of all the local phone users. Makes it hard to verify if all is ok and had to rely a bit on outside feedback.

I would be very wary of 4G in a crowded location. Most likely your test pre the event will be ok, but once the crowd fills the venue, you might be not have the bandwidth you expected. Are you using a Bond or other 4G signal combiner? That might help if you are.

as an event webcaster i can confirm those are exactly the issues we ran into
(we even used heavy directional antennae to get to the next celltower to have *some* bandwidth).

I also do work for a company that supplies wifi systems in football stadiums because with 40k clients in the grandstands 3g or 4g and even 'normal' gsm would fail

we now have a satellite internet set for outdoor locations.

My stadium audience is much smaller peaking at around maybe 2,000 people.

We did our second stream via Ustream on Sunday. A football Grand Final and it all went to air fine except the picture quality was poor even when running at 2,500 mb per sec.

A friend suggested I need to deinterlace in order to get the video not looking so blothchy.

Q. Where abouts do I deinterlace,

Q. Is this within the stream settings?

did ustream give you the 2500kbps you put into it?

I've seen cdn's that don't.

2500 kbps should give you a reasonably ok quality, just fast panning could be an issue.

When you say bad, what do you mean? blocky, fuzzy, lines, bad can mean anything :)
