Hi,
Looking for a solution. I have a pc laptop that I want to get 4 HDMI capture sources. Is there a solution for and external 4 HDMI inputs which isn't Thunderbolt? The one that come with an external box and connect to the PC?
I'm sure there is a solution out there... please help...
Thank you... Tom

Hi, what is the reference of the laptop? what are the usb ports? usb 5 gbps or 10 gbps? at Avmatrix, there is a usb 3.0 card that allows you to capture 2 hdmi inputs simultaneously https://www.avmatrix.com/products/uc2218-4k/

Thank you, I look into Avmatrix - I saw that they have 2 HDMI inputs but one of them is 4K and the other is 1080. There is gotta be a solution for 4 hdmi inputs not through PCI...

But my personal opinion about 300$ for 2 capture devices that are uvc (and probably MJPEG video format) is too expensive. So you need about 600$ for 4 cameras for a video format like uvc mjpeg that you can find in hdmi to usb devices for 20$ is too much.. Unless you need 4 separate inputs inside vmix a video mixer with 4 inputs in same price and then 1 usb out to vmix maybe is better.

Yes, this could work, but isn't recommended: https://www.vmix.com/kno...iple-usb-capture-devicesYou'll have to try if it works on your laptop. Another workaround could be to use HDMI to NDI encoders, or capture two devices on a different laptop and send them via NDI to the first one.

that hdmi card, is the lowest spec usb 3.0 and it only records 1080p 60 max. you can send it 4k 60, but it not going to record it. you need thunderbolt/usb 4. if your laptop doesnt have at least a high end 40 series gpu also, get your wallet out. you need to specify what you want to capture, and if all, at the same time. a elgato camlink pro, in a external pcie thunderbolt box, will get you 4 hdmi. i have one, works great! and a OWC Mercury Helios 3S goodluck!

For 4 HDMI inputs on a laptop, I think your two best options are either an external PCIe enclosure that connects to the laptop via Thunderbolt, or an external quad HDMI to NDI encoder, which would connect to your laptop via ethernet cable. And of course with either option you need a beefy laptop to handle all the incoming video.
Edit: I've seen quad SDI to NDI encoders before, so I assumed there was also an HDMI version. But I cannot find a quad HDMI to NDI encoder. And individual NDI encoders starts to become cumbersome, especially since you would now need an ethernet switch added into the mix. 4 HDMI to SDI converters to feed a quad SDI to NDI encoder is also cumbersome, since they need their own power supplies. This is also starting to get quite expensive.
Have you thought about just building a small form factor computer that can house a proper capture card and video card? That's what I did. Built around a Lian Li Dan A4-H2O case, it's about the size of a shoebox. Coupled with portable monitors (the size of a large tablet) it works quite well.

Thank you everyone for the different ideas. Eventually - I will use for now 3 FLEX - HDMI --> NDI (converters).
Using them with a POE++ router. (the router supply the power to the converters)
There is no other way other than Thunderbolt for a PC. Will need to build a dedicated computer for the PCI Capture card.
Thank you everyone.
