I have a 24 version of vMix. I've had to buy a new Windows 11 computer because my old one won't upgrade. I'll buy the new vMix for the new computer.

I have 2 DSLR cameras with a Decklink Duo (NO, A DECKLINK MINI) & a webcam in the old system. I was hoping to get a better capture card for this new computer to work with both DSLRs (at the same time sometimes).

What capture card would you recommend? Here are my Pci slots: 1 PCIe x16; 1 PCIe x4; 3 M.2 (2 for SSD, 1 for WLAN)

I upgraded the power source for the new computer. 32mgs RAM; Intel® Core™ i7-14700F; Intel® Z790 Chipset; NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 (8 GB GDDR6X dedicated)

The computer is here but I'm afraid to open the box until I get the right capture card.

Thanks in advance.

Well you don't say what exactly you don't like about your current capture card, so it's hard to make a recommendation for a replacement.

But since you're using DSLRs, I'm going to assume they have HDMI outputs, and not SDI. Are you going over a long distance, which would require SDI cables? Or is it just a few feet from the camera to the computer? In that case, HDMI cables would be fine. Having an HDMI capture card would be more convenient than having to convert the HDMI out from the cameras to SDI.

So if you want a multi-port HDMI capture card, the standard for years has been the Magewell Pro Capture Quad HDMI. It has 4 HDMI ports, allowing room for expansion in the future, if you ever want to add more cameras. I have 3 of those cards (in different computers), been using them for years, never had any issues. Blackmagic makes a similar card, if you want to stay with Blackmagic. I've never used it though.

Thank you for your input. I wanted to upgrade to something that would take more than one. Yes, I'm using HDMI I actually use the Decklink Mini for one DSLR and use an ATEM Mini to bring in the other one. I was thinking the Magewell because of the better ratings and I see no issues on this forum (whereas I do see issues with the BM Capture cards).

It may cost more to get a new capture card for the new computer, I can take my time moving things over and not miss any of my scheduled live streams. PLUS I can sell that Mini or use it for something else.

Oh one more thing I forgot to mention. Well two things I guess.

1. The Magewell has a PCIe x4 connector, whereas the BM card has a PCIe x8 connector. So that rules out the BM card for your motherboard.
2. The Magewell only goes up to 1080p60. If you're doing 4K capture, this card won't work.

Thank you. That helps a lot! I don't shoot 4k. 1080p is fine.

The Magewell says that it uses PCIe 2.0. I have a call in to HP to see if that will work with the expansion slots.

It will work. PCIe 2.0 came out in 2007. They are up to PCIe 7.0 now. And newer versions are backward compatible with older versions of PCIe.

Most all current PCIe Capture Cards are PCIe 2.0.

Hi,

motherboard reference?

4 hdmi inputs = elgato cam link pro/magewell pro quad hdmi

given the motherboard slots, 20 cpu lanes distributed on pcie x16 slot (GPU) + M2(1) x4 (SSD)

so either M2 to pcie x4 adapter for capture card (managed by cpu = recommended by vmix)
or capture card on pcie x4 slot (managed by z790 chipset)
