In the next evolution of my team's broadcast, we will be setting up a studio with possibly 6 cameras (3 PTZOptics and 3 BlackMagic), streaming the feeds from those cameras to my location offsite where I will ingest the feeds and produce the stream for our YouTube channel. Zoom inputs will also be used for some remote guests and hosts.

My main concern right now is video transport. The studio location has Fiber broadband at 250MB/250MB, which we can increase if necessary, but it seems like plenty of upload bandwidth for 6 HD streams, especially if they're encoded as H.264, or maybe 2110 SMPTE.

It seems like the best way to go is some dedicated hardware encoders to send the stream out via SRT, and add them in vMix. A VPN tunnel seems like a really good idea, but I am concerned about packet loss, buffering, and other problems...though I don't know enough about VPNs to know if that's a valid concern or not.

Regarding hardware I'm looking for robust, good support, and ease of use. No open source projects or ones requiring custom linux boxes and GitHub software. I was looking into the Makito X4 for the ultra low latency, but I'm open to your ideas if you have any about possible hardware solutions.

How easy is it to receive HD SRT streams from a remote location using a Makito? I've never tried to pull in an SRT stream before, so I've got some catching up to do. Can anyone say for certain that a VPN tunnel is the way to go to provide the transport path?

Supposedly SRT in rendezvous mode will work across the internet, without having to make any changes to your firewall at either end. And no VPN required either. I've never tried it though.

vMix has published a nice little guide to setting this up here: https://www.vmix.com/dow...nce_deployment_guide.pdf
