Yesterday, we streamed an online conference with live interpretation into English (from the original Czech) 🎤🌍.

To support the interpreters, we had to devise a solution using only the hardware available in our corporate studio. We ran vMix on the laptop shown in the attached photo 💻 and used Bitfocus Companion to control the volume for the interpreters' headsets 🎧 and to mute their microphones.

Since we didn’t have any spare StreamDecks, we utilized the web emulator 🌐 and labeled the corresponding keys on a keyboard to make it easier for the interpreters to operate.

Additionally, each interpreter had a numerical display showing their individual headset volume, as seen in the photo.

The original video feed with audio was routed to vMix via NDI, alongside the outgoing audio feed, with both headset microphones assigned to separate channels.

My colleague at another vMix station (we used 4 vMix setups in total!) managed the streams, including the original audio and the interpreted version. He also handled playback of break fillers and promotional graphics overlays while mixing the interpreters' audio. To stay in sync with the interpreters’ adjustments, he had access to the Companion emulator via a web browser 🔗.

This setup highlights how versatile and generally useful vMix and Bitfocus Companion can be, even in complex, on-the-fly scenarios like this one 💡.
