Hi all

I use vMix more for playback at corporate conferences etc. It would be useful to have an option for a countdown time for each clip. Also would it be possible to "autostart clips when fading to the output, that is one click to cut, fade etc and have the clip start. Maybe this could be an option type setting.

What do you think?

Cheers Richard

Hi Richard,

This is usually taken care of by a countdown clock. You've probably seen one dozens of times on TV when they didn't quite get their timing right.

Videos for broadcast or display at festivals etc should start with an audio reference tone, colour bars and then a countdown clock.

I usually start with an information page that details what is to follow, eg :-

1) This information page - 30 seconds
2) Colour bars and audio tone - 30 seconds
3) Black - 10 seconds
4) Countown clock - 60 seconds
5) Video entitled "My Latest Film" - 25m24s15f

It's not a good idea to put more than one item on a tape or disc.

This way the editor or projectionist can shuttle back and forth with confidence and fade in at the right moment.

Sorry if this sounds like teaching granny to suck eggs but others might find it useful.

Kind regards

Hi Brian, I remember all this stuff from the (golden?) "tape" days... but don't you think it is of lesser importance now that any AVI file can be started immediately (or almost)? I like very much the idea of an "autostart" when fade-in...

Hi Brian

I haven't explained that very well. We don't use tape any more this is purely for playback of avi and wmv files which don't have clocks etc. the reason for the countdown timer is so that we can communicate to the rest of the crew when the video is ending. Ie 10, 9, 8 etc. I don't know how useful this would be to the rest of your users.

Cheers Richard

Hi Luc

Yes, just remaining time would be good for conference playback applications. Something like "1:20:15" counting down. (Hours , Min, Sec) Although hopefully we don't need the hours indicator!

Hi Richard,

I can't promise a countdown timer is on the todo list at this stage, but I can say the QuickPlay feature (which allows automatic fading and starting of a video clip) will be expanded
in the next release by allowing you to customise the transition and duration of the QuickPlay button.

Regards,

Martin
