Is there a better way to delay video right now?

Not the individual video sources but the entire output.

Using the video delay source is fine except that it only allows adjustment in 1 second chunks. If we were able to delay more precisely, in milliseconds, that would be an improvment.

Right now, we have to compensate for the fine timing by over-delaying video and then tweaking in the audio, which is a single production channel, that allows fine tuning in milliseconds.

OR perhaps there would be a better way to accomplish this entirely.

Of course, it burns up an output channel when we need to route that delay out for streaming, etc. It would be ideal if rather than using the limited output channels that streaming, recording, zoom/vmixcall could point directly to an indivdual source.

Thank you!

I'm not at a vMix machine right now, but can't you delay a video from its input settings rather than using a separate Video Delay input? Pretty sure this also allows control in frames/milliseconds/something smaller than whole seconds.

Yes but we're looking to delay entire program which also includes zoom, vmix Calls, browser, etc. The whole package at once.

@ fgolman

Using vMix Instant Replay as a "Time Slip" is the recommended solution:

This is what we're currently doing. However the delay slider when creating the delay only is granular by whole seconds. It may be a bug because it seemed like it could actually slide with more precision but just jumps second by second.

Go to the bottom left Add I put MENU (NOT button) and choose Output.

That adds an input of whatever is on your Output 1.

Delay the video on this output.

Then set this input to be the selection in Output Settings for output 2, 3 or 4.

This is exactly what I'm doing except that the video delay itself automatically can accept from the main output. No need to use the output-input. Furthermore it is not possible to add a delay directly in the output-input as that function is disabled.

The whole point of this thread is how to get more precise control of the delay.

Have you really looked at the video? You said you use the Video Delay Input, Ice posted a video about a different method.
