Hi all,
I do a number of live IMAG type events where I have no more than 4 SDI Cameras and want to use vMix to live switch to the projectors so I need the lowest latency solution as possible.

I have the following laptop:

ASUS TUF F15 TUF507VV4-LP089W 15.6" FHD 144Hz RTX 4060 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-13700H - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD - AX WiFi 6 + BT5.2 - Webcam - Thunderbolt 4 (DP) - USB-C (DP & PD) - HDMI2.1 - RGB Keyboard - Win 11 Home

I have got the vMix 4K version.

I am currently using UVC USB 3 devices via HDMI which work fine but have a bit too much latency.

Is anybody using the AJA IO-4K Plus or similar and if so what sort of frames latency do you get?
Is there any other device which is faster that you can recommend?

Also, is 60p still twice as fast through vMix compared to 30p? - I am not sure why that is as I would expect it too be slower as twice as much data to process?

Thanks and regards
Paul

Software switchers like vMix are not recommended for LIVE IMAG video as the latency is noticeable and will be distracting for viewers.
You would be best to use a hardware switcher for any LIVE video feeds directly to the screen for that.

This is obviously disappointing that I have to resort to a hybrid type solution where vMix does the graphics and the cameras come in via a hardware switcher and then I mix the two together. I really want vMix to do it all to reduce the complexity of the hardware configuration.
The render time vMix tells me is sub 10 m/sec (typically 1 to 5 m/sec) so how does that result in near 100's of m/sec of actual latency? Yes I know the UVC captures devices add in delay (they say around 12m/sec) so trying to find a overall faster option. The UVC device is a Hagibis 4K HDMI Video Capture Card with a MS2131 chip set.

Questions:
1) Is the AJA io-4k plus using thunderbolt 3 faster than using UVC capture devices via USB-C?
2) Does changing to 60p from 30p actually give less latency?

thanks
Paul

I see your knowledge of computers is kind f limited.....Thunderbolt is much faster than USB, and the AJA IO 4K is the way you should go... I use the older model without any issues, and if you are worried about latency, then I suggest you look elsewhere, as there will always be some kind of delay with processing...always.....

Im using sometimes cheap uvc hdmi to usb devices in combination with decklink mini recorder cards and for return in the studio from hdmi out gpu at 50p as im in Europe .There exist a bit of latency but not annoying for talk shows I believe and the only time that the studio talents complained was when by mistake i send to fullscreen out an SRT return. In normal conditions even if vmix is not intended for IMAG personally i dont see this as problem for normal people conditions. And my desktop pc is less powerful than your laptop. I also believe that 0 latency is impossible to have so yes if you need almost real time return then unfortunately a pc switcher will not give it to you and better go with hw switcher. Also by changing vmix preset from 50/60p to 25/30p it may have a very small impact in latency but you may affect your production as 50p/60p in fast motion camera movements is more smooth and has less "trace" when you move fast the cameras.
