Just saving the Excel file should be sufficient, and setting an adequate refresh rate in the Data Sources Manager.

I've never used actual MS Excel for this. I've only used LibreOffice Calc. Maybe Calc doesn't keep a lock on the file like Excel does. Is using Calc a viable alternative?

When we used Excel as a datasource (a few years ago), we had to Save in Excel so that vMix could grab it, but was not necessary to close Excel.
