Hi Martin,

Here is a screen capture video describing Bug#2. It manifests only when Mark Out is used.

As I was working on this several days ago and have slept considerably since then, I am still trying to reproduce Bug#1 to demonstrate to you. I remember clearly seeing those symptoms to happen, but I am so far unable to reproduce what I saw earlier. The circumstances leading up to that problem are kind of fuzzy for me right now. Anyways, I will let you know when I know.

I have now spent three days checking out the new release (v13.00.142). So far I am extremely happy with all the improvements! For one thing, the possibility to "change" inputs is a miracle and a time saver.

At the moment I am playing with a new laptop (Asus G750JS) with a Thunderbolt expansion box. Works very nice. But since "Two independent Full Screen outputs" is another great new feature, I have some thoughts around this.

WARNING ;) Before you read this make sure you are relaxed and have time. Even I who wrote became confused as I re/read it. But that is a result of the reasons that motivated me to post it. Curious? Go ahead!

Suitable laptops have both a built in graphic card (Intel HD 4x000) and a gaming graphic card (eg Nvidia GTX870M). My particular gaming laptop has a built in LED monitor, one VGA output, one HDMI output, and one Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay output. I have plugged in my Thunderbolt expansionbox in the latter. So I can work with three displays :)

First of all, to me it is unclear which graphics card is actually used and how. I have figured out that vMix64.exe shoould be "Run with High performance NVIDIA processor" (right-click option, or defined as default in Nvidia's control panel). But beyond that I am clueless. Does that mean that vMix can use that card's power for things like "multiview" and transitions, but the external displays still uses the Intel graphics card. Which is indicated as "Adapter type" in Window's display Advanced settings. This questions leads me to wonder if perhaps vMix could know, and indicate, which graphics processor is used for which external display.

Second, the terminology "Fullscreen", "Display n", "External n", and "Output Screen n" is to me rather confusing. For example, in vMix settings one can select for "Display 1" which "Output Screen" it should go to. But Windows (in its Screen resolution setup) does not call it neither "Output" nor "Screen", but "Display".

This lead me to the idea of slightly renaming things (perhaps an even more radical reshuffling of how the Settings is organized is needed):
* In Settings/Display: use "Fullscreen 1" and "Fullscreen 2" (instead of "Display"), and rename "Output screen" to "Windows display".
* In Settings/Output: use "Fullscreen 1" and "Fullscreen 2" (instead of "Fullscreen" and Fullscreen 2")
* In Settings/External Output: use "External 1" and "External 2" (just to be consistent)
* In Fullscreen button dropdown: use "Fullscreen 1" and "Fullscreen 2"

Third, the "Fullscreen" button seems to sort of grab all available Windows' displays. I can imagine situations when one wants to use Windos Display 1 for vMix's main window, Display 2 for extended desktop (eq with an undockec vMix audio mixer), and Display 3 for vMix Fullscreen (eg Multiview). Therefore the possibility to set "Don't use" as "Output screen" for "Display n" (or if my second idea is implemented rather as "Windows display" for "Fullscreen n").
Perhaps also replacing the "Fullscreen" button with two buttons "Fullscreen 1" and "Fullscreen 2". And only show the buttons that are set to be used (ie not "Don't use").
(A current workaround seems to be to assign the same Display screen number for both Display 1 and Display 2, thus freeing one for extended desktop).

Fourth, what's the idea to offer the screen/display vMix is shown on as an option in the "Output screen" setting? Would it not be better to remove that, as well as inhibit Fullscreen rendering on the same screen/display as vMix? It's kind of awkward to see the Fullscreen behind vMix (if vMix is not running in Fullscreen - sic!). Actually, that was one thing that REALLY confused me the first time I tried vMix (years ago).

Thanks. Now looking forward to dig into the audio part...

From the release notes:
Quote:
Change inputs on the fly while preserving all settings.

But it seems that not all settings are preserved. For camera inputs frame rate is rolled back to blank, deinterlacing to blend, and audio to the device's sort of default (varies depending of connection).

(Sidenote, I still would like to see frame rate dropdown re-ordered to 25p, 50i and 50p to avoid confusion. And the addition to Settings/Option "Set audio device default to None for Camera Inputs).

A minor thing is that "Automatic white balance" is not documented in the help file.

Also found a few issues regarding Virtual sets.

* To begin with the selected speed is not retained when a Virtual set is "Changed" (using this new feature).

* Then if "config.xml" for a customized set is changed, the change is not applied in vMix when the input is changed (to the same named, but updated, virtual set. Does not help even when saving a preset and reloading it. The only way to commit the change is to close the input and add it again (thus loosing the virtual set's settings).

* Furthermore, when adding an input with a customized Virtual set, the file browser always opens up in a sort of "top" position (Desktop, user's folder, this PC, etc). One would at least expect it to start where the most recently added virtual set was. Or, to come back to an old topic on Relative paths for inputs, close to where other things have been added from. Or as suggested in the topic, a "vMix working folder".

Another finding on my exciting explorations of v13.

The shortcut "SetOutputFullscreen" seems not to be upgraded to manage two Fullscreen outputs.

I have not been able to re-create this issue unfortunately. I add an MP4, set only a Mark Out point, tick Loop and click Play.
The video starts from the beginning again as expected. Maybe there is a custom codec being used on your system? Take a screenshot of the Advanced tab from Input Settings
and I will re-create the same items there.

Thanks for the Fullscreen suggestions Richard, I agree a couple of areas should be renamed to be more consistent.

I will point out though that Fullscreen is turned off by default on new installations, to prevent confusion on one display setups.

I noticed, thanks. Another evidence of how devoted you are to keeping things tidy. Which I know is *really* hard for an extremely complicated (behind the user interface) product such as vMix. Actually, I am amazed that I have not had a single crasch or bluesceen while doing all kinds of crazy things with v13. Like remaking the preset, adding/removing USB cards, closing inputs in use - all while streaming and recording. (Note, of course for test purpose, nothing I would actually do during live productions).

Not sure if this is a bug or by design (seems I noticed this in vMix 12 as well but not v11).
Chroma key video (Green Screen) overlay effects do not display on input window.
Not a big deal, just wondering why this is?

Sounds like you might have the setting ticked in Settings -> Performance -> Disable Effects on Input Previews

HI,
I'm an enthusiastic user of vMix and I just updated to the latest version but maybe I did a big mistake.
Now the audio is really bad, full of scratches like if the hardware could not manage it.
It seems no else has the same problem, there is a setting that can fix that or I have to go back to the previous version that worked perfectly?

Hi Max,

Could you provide some more information? The following would help:

1. Windows version
2. CPU
3. Graphics Card
4. What type of Inputs with audio have you tried?

Also, create a short recording of the issue so I can see what it sounds like.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

pc configuration is

sony vaio with windows 7 and i7 processor 8 Gb ram
ssd drive
graphic card intel HD 4000 and Nvidia geforce gt640

the problem is with mp3, wav and mp4 files (i didn't tried the others yet)

in the version 12.0 everything worked perfectly

here an audio sample of the problem, I tried to record it with vmix but the audio is good in the record file, so i used a microphone

Three general Audio issues (I have some more, but they fit better in the Audio discussion topic).

1. When vMix loads a preset where audio devices defined in the preset are missing, the Audio outputs are set to default. While this is good, I firmly believe a warning "Missing audio device" is necessary. When mounting all gear at a venue one might (by mistake) start vMix before all cables, here USB, are connected. A missing camera is easy to detect, a complex audio setup is very difficult to problem solve...

2. The bright colors of the arrows in vMix's Audio mixer buttons for "Automatically Mix Audio" have fooled at least me to interpret the button as being "on". I suggest that the arrows instead are made white, as for example Solo is. Another reason is that the colors of the arrows in any case does not follow any changes made in the Preview/Output color settings.

3. The blue "INPUTS" bar on the Audio mixer is sometimes positioned to the right of the OUTPUTS, depending on how one adjust the width of the mixer section. If possible, please do something so that the INPUT bar always is attached to the left of the first output.

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound
Select the default device and click Properties.
Under advanced tab report back the Default Format.
You can try changing it to 16bit 48000hz if it is not already and restart.

thank you Martin now is much better but it's not still the same, when I play a video (I tried an mp4) there are drops in the music (clicks) every 10/20 seconds.
this version requires more resources than previous one? How I can set the performance preferences for the best results?

I use the program for live show and I have to be sure that the video goes without imperfection

Have you tried going back to v12 and see if it worked as it used to?
(In case something else has changed in your PC).

The issue appears for me on MPEG-2 TS files I have tested with or without the AC3Filter checked in the Blocked Filter List. It also applies to all the MP4 files I have tried. For the sake of example, I am using a MP4 file ripped from YouTube using youtube-dl
