Choosing what to display - VMix vs Computer Screen

I am having trouble figuring out what video gets displayed on an external screen or stream.
When I am in VMix, only the video in the right window within Vmix will be shown on the external monitor rather than the entire Vmix program currently displayed on my computer - this is, of course, how it should be.
However, if I minimize Vmix while keeping the program running, my entire computer screen now gets displayed - this is NOT how it should be. I would like to be able to perform other tasks on my computer without everyone else seeing it and interrupting the Vmix feed.
How can this be fixed?

In Settings, on the Display tab, make sure the "minimize" checkbox is NOT checked. If it's checked, then when you minimize vmix, then the external monitor output window will get minimized with vmix, which is not what you want.
