We have the UMC1820 installed, works very well. Unfortunally we need more inputs (need 3 extra inputs) :), is it possible to add a UMC404HD(we have this one bought earlier) to the same Vmix installation?
Or is better to have 1 device with more options then the UMC1820? What is a good upgrade for the UMC1820?

@ adrider
Only one ASIO device can be used at a time, so if you add a second USB interface device, it will likely only work as a single Input.

Thankyou! Extending looks like a perfect solution.
Do we get extra asio devices in vmix after you extended our interface.

Haven't used it, just know that it exists. But I think you will be able to bring in the additional inputs as separate channels, just like the other regular inputs.

Hi @mtone,
Do you know for sure the extra channels would be availible on the UMC1820 ASIO driver?
I also dropped an email to to Vmix support:
++++ VMIX Support ++++ Unfortunately, we have not used this device before to know if it has the capability of passing the channels via ASIO. It seems unlikely that the UMC1820 ASIO driver will adapt to extra channels, but we do not know. You would need to ask Behringer. ++++ VMIX Support ++++
They think it is unlikely....

I wont say i know for sure because i havent used a UMC1820.. however im about as sure as you can be without having used it. https://mediadl.musictri...-AAN_UMC1820_Rear_XL.pngthe UMC has two ADAT ports on the back (in/out).. the one on the right shows IN(11-18) which you cant really access unless you have a pre amp that converts analog inputs to ADAT optical such as the behringer ADA8200s.. https://mediadl.musictri...-AAB_ADA8200_Rear_XL.pngthe ADA8200 has ADAT in/out ports also... the idea is connect the output of the ADA8200 to the input of the UMC1820, then connect the output of the UMC1820 to the input of the ADA8200 (using ADAT optical cables).. this should then provide 8 extra inputs in the UMC1820 and also add an extra 8 XLR outputs... they may be named "ADAT11" or "IN11" (different manufacturers label differently).. in fact, you may already see those inputs in vMix (using the UMC1820 ASIO driver and without a pre amp connected) ? you just wouldnt hear anything if you try to use them.. when using a setup like this one device needs to be set as master clock and the other as slave. you would probably set this up in the UMC control panel. this keeps both devices accurately synced.. if you are thinking to buy an ADA8200 or other ADAT pre amp id confirm with the sales person first but im confident it would work.. otherwise do a search for ADA8200 with UMC1820 and you should get some info from others using that gear.. here is one post i found.. this person is using a DAW in linux but if you follow what he wrote you'll get an idea.. https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=249108

As mentioned above, I also haven't used it, but ran across it, when looking for possible solutions once. Please note: The ADAT inputs and outputs are the reason why the UMC1820 is called UMC1820 in the first place - for a total of 18 inputs and 20 outputs. Check with Behringer or your sales person, but I'm pretty sure it works that way. Also see: https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_umc1820.htmQuote: Additional channels via digital interfaces
If you are planning live recordings of your own band or extensive drum recording with many channels, you can expand the Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 via the available digital connection options. Particularly interesting in this respect is the optical ADAT port, which can process eight additional channels in both directions at sampling rates up to 48kHz. At a full 96kHz, this number is halved by sample multiplexing. In principle, the U-Phoria UMC1820 can be connected in this way to all preamp modules that offer a corresponding interface. An obvious option is, for example, the Behringer ADA8200 Ultragain, which is also very reasonably priced and provides eight preamps as well as eight additional outputs. The clock synchronisation also runs via ADAT.

We got this working in VMIX. It is great to have this working together (UMC1820 -> ADA8200 ) The ADAT inputs are availible and our new inputs are working fine. Many many thanks for your help! WhatsApp Image 2023-12-20 at 22.49.51.jpg (374kb) downloaded 7 time(s).
