I have a virtual set with three main inputs, a presenter plus guest one and two.
I would like to feature two talking heads on a split screen, i.e. select two areas of the virtual set and put them together on multiview. This is proving harder than you might expect.
I’ve tried creating two virtual inputs from the main set, each one a close-up of the respective talking head I need, and combining them into a new blank “colour” input via multiview.
However, Position controls on the new input apply to the *entire set*, not just to the isolated area. You can’t combine two selected areas of a virtual set in this way. Nor can you crop.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

@ AgentPete
A visual would certainly be helpful, but from what I understand of your description, I would suggest creating a couple of virtual copies of your virtual set and take a close up from each set with appropriate cropping on each layer to use in your MultiView Input talking heads.

Ice Thx for reply, will post pics in a moment. Yes, I'd have thought a virtual input would be the way to go too, but it doesn't work. More in a mo.

OK, here with pictures... 1. Full set 2. Desired result, i.e. multiview of presenter and one guest. 3. Two virtual inputs created from main virtual set, the first showing the presenter, the second showing guest. 4. When virtual inputs above are combined into a new input, it is impossible to crop either of them. They will zoom to the full set but not crop, which makes the desired effect impossible. Thanks for any help! Image1.jpg (107kb) downloaded 3 time(s).1. Full set Image2.jpg (34kb) downloaded 1 time(s).2. Desired result, i.e. multiview of presenter and one guest. Image3.jpg (81kb) downloaded 2 time(s).3. Two virtual inputs created from main virtual set, the first showing the presenter, the second showing guest. Image4.jpg (107kb) downloaded 0 time(s).4. When virtual inputs above are combined into a new input, it is impossible to crop either of them. They will zoom to the full set but not crop, which makes the desired effect impossible.

Looks like you want some multiview mixed with virtual set work together . sort of transition form one to the other if i understand it correctly hmmm using VT move to location into a multiview look while i dont fully see how you would imagine the transition itself , ...making a transformer ;-)
I think you should focus and multiviews and merging even using the VS images ( after all a VS is a multiview ;-) ) or jsut cut from your VS to your Multiview ( your split screen)

Thanks, @doggy, extremely nice of you to throw together a video :)
This is close, but not quite a cigar. I don’t want to break the visual metaphor of the virtual set design. Therefore, a close-up of presenter and guest(s) must show them in the context of the set. Having the guest pop out of context, which is what your vid does, ain’t quite there.
What I’m trying to do sounds simple enough, but looks to be technically impossible with vMix.
I guess a work-around would be to create a “fake” virtual set overlay for each close-up and combine them like that...

This was just a quick mock-up not even using all layers or combine them hence for example didn't make them overlap . If you combine the right layers etc you can achieve exactly what you want While this is of course all down to personal opinion , i for one do not like what you try to achieve visually

Actually, that’s my point. You can’t achieve this effect. With respect, your video didn’t do it. vMix will not allow you to add two parts of the same virtual set, crop them and zoom them.
More than happy to be proved wrong, of course.

@ AgentPete
You will need to do your "cropping" on each layer of the "source" set as you cannot crop layers from another MultiView in a MultiView (as per my instructions above).

More than happy to be proved wrong, of course. Thats the thing imo. Not using a virtual set itself but its images iin a multiview

Hello. I came to this bug too. To be clear dont know if it is a bug or not a feature. But after 4 years and vmix 27 is out, this unfortunatelly not fixed. So the only solution if we work with a vrtual set and we need to do traditional way layer like this is impossible and need to do, a lot of workaround? Is there a new way to do this? test video1.png (106kb) downloaded 0 time(s).

Update to this problem after some hours of searching and it is so simple!! We make another one or more (if we have more talents) virtualsets copies and we take the close-up shot per talent Then we will use the mini mix feature one mini mix per talent. We route via them into our new layer set and yes it works!! Thank you vmix team for this great "mini" feature!
