CPU usage with IP cameras

Hi there. Struggled to get up cameras that a security cameras running. Thinking I might have an issuE with nxwitness locking cameras??
Anyway actual question is I managed to get a feed using the vlc plugin, but the max cams I could get was 6 until it reaches the limit of my CPU quad core i7 from 2019. If I managed to get Rtsp working would it be less CPU intensive. I don't want to build a new PC and only get say 10 cams.
Thoughts...

The unofficial and probably unscientific "rule of thumb" guide for IP and NDI is "one per core" before you start encountering issues.
