I put a plugin on a audio track and would like to be able to turn it on or off with the Audio Plugin on or off function.
I entered a trigger: On Transition in-Audio Plugin On- Input-Delay- And number 1 for the first plugin in the list. I don't see any other place to assign a number to a plugin, so I assume it's the number in order listed. Nothing happens. It seems pretty straight forward. If this would work with the delay to apply plugins anywhere in the song, it would be great.
Thanks a bunch.

Can you elaborate on how you experience the audio plugin not to work on a trigger ? What was the input reference ( match the audio of the input)?
Seems ok here

It doesn't do anything. Is it supposed to turn the plugin off by unchecking the box in front of the plugin or somewhere inside the plugin. I don't see an effect anywhere. The only way to turn the plugin off is by unchecking the box next to it. If I send Audio Plugin on it doesn't turn on, or off if it's on.
The input reference is the same input the plugin is on. Input 1.
Thanks doggy.

Try without having the audio settings window open when the trigger executes , open it after the trigger was performed

for that you need to select the onoff command one

Still nothing. When you say select the onoff command one, do you mean AudioPluginOnOff as the function? I've tried AudioPlugin On, AudioPlugin Off and AudioPlugin OnOff as functions. Plug in Number 1 as it's the first one in the list. Is there something I'm missing in the plugin number section of the trigger?

Do you actually transition your audio track to output, i.e. cut / fade /...?

Also, be aware that delay is only working up to 30 seconds, see https://www.vmix.com/help26/Triggers.html. I'm not sure if it is the right tool for your intended outcome ("... apply plugins anywhere in the song...").

Oh wow, dmwkr. I thought for sure I remembered seeing somewhere that it was longer than that. I will just stick to using Cantabile as my vst host and connecting with LoopMIDI. I’m using Cantabile as the master to control vmix start and stop with midi cc messages but some of the transitions are a little rough. There’s a 500ms freeze in between the stop and start of the next auto played video. I’ve been trying to use vmix as the master to control Cantabile with scripting but I don’t know scripting and I can’t figure out what a script would be to send a midicc message through looopmidi to cantabile.
If vmix had a way of starting a plug-in at a marker it would probably work as plug-in host to keep everything in one program. If the delay were longer as I thought we could start plug-in were we want it to come in. Thanks to all

what is the exact goal you are trying to achieve with cantible and vMix ? i read some of your recent posts but wasnt sure.. are you trying to perform live music and have videos triggered as you play ?

Exactly. I want to sing and play guitar live along with backing tracks imbedded in videos in vmix. Cantabile handles the Vst plugins with guitar and mic inputs and can change plugins anywhere in the song. Change guitar sounds or add delay on vox in different parts of the song. If I could do that in vmix I could do it all there, but instead I have to sync cantabile to vmix and play them both back at the same time. They don’t sync b as close exactly, but I can adjust to make it work. I have it set so cantabile sends midi cc messages thru loopmidi to vmix to trigger start and stop with cantabile by shortcuts in vmix. It works pretty well but some of the transitions are rough between songs so I was exploring a way to use vmix as the master and cantabile as slave but it’s much harder. It’s seem I could possibly use broadcast but I’d rather not use a router and depend on internet in some locations. I would like to send midi cc messages from vmix thru loopmidi to cantabile but I don’t know scripting and seems very complicated. Seems I might need something like sendmidi app but I can’t get it to open on my computer.

OK.. i havent used cantible but i previously setup Reaper and OBS for similar task..

in Reaper i just placed a midi tracks alongside audio tracks on the timeline and setup midi CCs at exact locations which routed to OBS with loop midi driver.. the videos in OBS didnt play any audio, the audio was all coming from Reaper so i didnt need both applications to use the audio driver.. i dont recall any latency doing it that way and id imagine the same should be possible with vMix ?

Reaper can also automate plugins well so when you need to turn delays on/off or change specific FX settings on the fly its easy using automation items.. also easy to setup songs as marker points and entire set lists at regions.. it can send lyrics to a tablet also like a teleprompter and its super efficient CPU and latency wise.. given cantible is made for live performance id imagine you are probably able to do most of that already but if there is anything you are having trouble with id say consider checking Reaper out.. its so impressive how adaptable it is for applications like this..

It’s the same, but I’m playing the audio and video together in vmix and turning down audio in cantabile to keep music video perfectly synced. I run voicemeeter potato connected to vmix with vb- cable to use audio engine for both programs.

personally i wouldnt want to use a virtual audio cable to connect two bits of software when you rely on the audio for the live performance.. its not that it cant work but the more interconnected stuff the more invitation to problems.. less complexity the better (esp mission critical)..

are you just wanting to send the video clips to a screen at the venue ? if so you shouldnt even need vMix you could do everything in one program (ie: Reaper), i looked at cantable website and couldnt see it mention any support for video but i recall seeing other live performance software that supports video..

if you want to stream the video then you would need vMix obviously but IMO it would be better to separate the audio from the video, play the audio back in cantable and trigger the video in vMix.. wouldnt that setup also solve your "how to turn FX on/off" question (if all the audio is in cantable) ?

if you are worried about sync drifting with audio and video separated, maybe try and see how bad it is ? you could always cut the video into a few sections and re trigger at different points in the song if needed..

if you are comfortable with the setup you have, all good.. just offering some ideas..

I useCubase as daw but unfortunately Cubase doesn’t work with 4k video. A quick search Reaper doesn’t either. Daws have their limitations for video. If you know of one program that does plugins and 4k video well I’d like to know.it seems like using the 2 together is going to work ok. Thanks anyway.

i'm pretty sure Reaper works with 4k video playback.. it uses VLC as its decoder so whatever VLC plays should work..

id say its worth checking Reaper out if you aren't familiar, it has lots of features that support live performance and its extremely adaptable.. the forums for it are helpful also..
