Hi Ben,

how's your setup going?

i was thinking about the same card but mounted on a Sonnet Echo SE Express II with three Go Pro cameras. Has anybody tried this setup?

thanks

I have the same question. I am looking to purchase this card and would like to know how this performs.

I'm using Sonnet Echo SE Express II with Macbook Pro Retina 15 Bootcamp with two Blackmagic cards, and it is working so far without problems.

We are using the Magma ExpressBox 1T but we use it with BlackMagic cards.

It is working ok.

There is no reason (in theory) to not work with Megewell.

Wish I could help ;)
I have a XI400DE-HDMI, still testing it in various desktops. So far so good.

Those of you that connect a box via Thunderbolt, can you recommend a powerful laptop? For at least 720 50p, four cameras and a couple of multiviews recording and streaming.

Also, is it possible to use a box with 2 PCIe slots, one for the XI400DE-HDMI and one for a graphics card? (to off load the PC).

We use that one, Richard http://www.asus.com/Note...rabooks/ASUS_ROG_G750JS/

It works with 4 x 1080i 50 cams ( added a BM Mini-Recorder in chain )

Thanks for sharing! I have a MSI GE70, similar CPU (i7 4700MQ, vs HQ for the Asus you pointed at), but not as good graphics card (GTX 765M). Although I am not sure if vMix is actually using that card, or the built in Intel...

In any case, my MSI can barely handle two cams 720 25p via two USB3 Magewell dongles. While recording and streaming the CPU (total, all processes) is around 80% and the render time constantly above 20 ms. The CPU load makes me doubt that that the CPU is sufficient.

Jumped into a PC shop today just to check if the Magewell XI200XUSB box worked with the Asus G750 USB3 ports. As in most my other machines, there is a strange stuttering (looks like 15 fps instead of 25 or 50). The XI100DUSB-HDMI works fine, always. Will contact Magewell about the stuttering.

Still, I will somehow try to get my hands on a Thunderbolt expansion box and play with PCIe cards...

Yes. Maybe the thunderbolt makes the difference.

Maybe we'll have a coffee togheter sometime... I'll bring the expansion box for tests :)

It is possible to go for an event in Helsinki in August or for another one to Tallin in September .. I'll let you know.

I've never been to Romainia, maybe it's time for an excuse to visit this summer ;). Would love to hear more about the Discovery Channel project you did.

ClementN,
Well, using my new G750JS and a Thunderbolt expansion box I can do 4x720p @50fps with the bells and whistles I need.
Thanks for the tip!

I found a cheaper box though (USD 199): http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Firmtek/TTPX/
Works finde with a Yuyan SC510-HDMI, will soon try with the Magewell and be back...

Ben,
I will most likely not purchase a Magma ExpressBox. Instead I went for the cheaper Firmtek TTPX, which works just fine with the Magewell XI400DE-HDMI too :)

As the Firmtek has only one PCIe slot, and only one Thunderbolt port, I might supplement later with a Sonnet Echo Express SE II.

Thank you for keeping us updated.

The Sonnet cases looks very promising as I see they have 2 Thunderbolt Ports.
Also the 12 v power makes them suitable for remote location uses.
Also, the Daughter slot seems very useful for the BM cards .

Let's keep each other informed about those kind of boxes :)

Good luck with it!

I noticed that the Firmtek TTPX gets rather hot (with a 4xHDMI input card inside). There is a small fan inside the box, most likely under dimensioned...
