NO, get a gigabit switch, old modems work ok, or get a reversal LAN cable and connect both PCs together, and bring in the PP PC via NDI, but first, you need to download and run the Desktop Capture app. (https://www.vmix.com/software/download.aspx#downloaddesktopcapture) on the PP laptop....when you run the app, you will see the desktop of the PP PC, as an NDI source....

Since the Laptop screen displays slide show controls and preview pane I cannot use the screen capture. I wanted to take the HDMI cable out and add a splitter, feeding one leg to the projector and the second leg feeding to the vmix computer via an HDMI video converter to USB. Can the vmix accept this USB feed and use it as an overlay.

Yes, this will work. Joeboe was suggesting NDI instead of HDMI but HDMI will absolutely work.

Whether your USB HDMI capture device will work is going to be your main thing to figure out. As long as it support DirectShow Input you should be good.

What's the device you have?
