We stream weekly church services to Facebook and YouTube. We love vMix!

We successfully livestream 1080p to Facebook using vMix's API, and viewers are able to watch live at 1080p. Once the livestream ends, however, viewers can only watch replays (archives) at 720p or lower resolution. Is this normal, or are we doing something unusual that prevents watching Facebook livestream archives at 1080p?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide.

This seems to be a recent issue. I know in the past it was available at 1080p but I see it's limited to 720p now. I hate FB. I stream to both FB and YT to get around all these issues.

Thanks for your response. Yes, in the past Facebook allowed us to view our livestream archives at 1080p, but not any more. I was wondering if we had configured something incorrectly, but our experience is similar to what you report.

hi,

that is a little strange, this friday we did a livestream and the archieved video is 1080p.

i guess it could be related to a mobile device resolution limit

I have tried viewing our livestream archives on a variety of devices, including a decent Windows PC with 200 Mbps download to it, recent iPhones, Macs, etc. I seem to be maxed out at 720p for viewing any archive on any device I have tried.

I wonder how Facebook manages archive resolutions. I assume they make a decision on what resolutions to archive for each livestream. It certainly looks like using the vMix API for streaming to Facebook doesn't guarantee that archives will be available at 1080p.

Perhaps someone from vMix can comment on expectations for 1080p with Facebook?
