Hi,

Love that in v25 'Output' can now be added as an input. Is there a reason that 'Outputs 2/3/4' can't be added in the same way?

Also would this be possible for the 'Multiview' and if not, could it at least be available as NDI?

Thanks!

Hi Doggy,

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. It is the 'Multiview' that I wanted via NDI (or ideally as an input), I am already using the outputs1-4 via NDI

I'd assume it's because, for a lot of use cases, they're a lot more static.

Personally, I set my Output 2/3/4 to Inputs 1-3, permanently, across the board. If I need to change them, I add Mix inputs as inputs 1-3 & use those to switch what goes out on Outputs 2-4.

Either way, whatever is going out to Output 2/3/4 is located at Input 1/2/3.

I'd imagine, due to how the selection for Outputs 2-4 is handled, that's how a lot of people do it (or at least how a lot of people are perceived to do it). And, in that use case, the ability to add Output 2, 3, or 4 as an input would essentially be the ability to add Input #X as an input.

Can I ask what you're doing with Outputs 2-4 that this method wouldn't work for you?

Thanks.

As an example, I often use outputs 3 and 4 to feed back to Vmix Callers. The input shown on them is switchable depending on requirement. Currently there is no way to monitor what is on Outputs 3 and 4 (including added overlays) without looping back over NDI. You cannot assign them to either the Fullscreen O/Ps or see them in the Multiview. Indeed, these would also be useful possibilities.

To answer your question about why your method wouldn't work for me, Mix 2/3/4 are used elsewhere in the project.

We all use Vmix in different ways but my question was, if we can now have Output1 and an input (Which is a great feature - thanks Martin!), could we have 2/3/4 and the Multiview too? ;-)

It might be an overhead thing?

+/- 1 (I am not sure ;)

Frankly,
+ it would be nice I guess even though I see no immediate use in our productions
- possible overhead, drags attention from other really interesting requets...

We too feed OUT2/3/4 to Callers, and also to NDI for various uses such as confidence monitors, teleprompters, Zoom/Teams, etc. But we always feed those OUTs from an Input, one for each OUTx, which typically is assembled using one or more Overlays. With v25 we are now able to use a Virtual Input from an Output Input as the base, instead of just a blank Colour Input. First point here is that these Inputs can be, and are by us, used to monitor the OUTs we send.

Second point is that it would be nice to be able to assemble those Inputs into a "OUT multiview" for monitoring purposes. Unfortunately that won't work, as that would require "flattening" which is requested but not existing. I wonder, which would be better - a flatten feature or all OUTs as Inputs. I vote for the former, as it offers more versatility...

On the other hand, in some cases I guess there is no need for a pre-OUT-Input. Unless you need to monitor OUTx, then you need at least one Input for each OUT you want to monitor.

Looking fwd to a continued discussion here...

Yes, and, in so doing, you never explained why you wanted it or why the current option of using Mix inputs didn't work for you. I really don't think it's a coincidence that there are 3 additional outputs and 3 additional Mix inputs.

They've been very clear that when one makes a Feature Request, it helps your case immensely to explain what you want to do, why you want to do it, why you can't do it with the current solutions, and why the feature you're requesting is better for it.

Simply saying "Can you please add this?", especially when they don't see the need for it, isn't going to get you very far.

As you said, we all use vMix in different ways. Which means that, when making a feature request, people need to explain how they're using it so the team can see where they're coming from, especially in cases where they have reason to believe there's already a viable option that renders the requested feature redundant.

When I see feature requests that don't do that, which is an incredibly surprising number of them, I do my best to ask those questions to help people make their case stronger.
