Some VST 3 plugins like Waves Vocal Rider can have 2 inputs into them.

The typical reason is something called a side chain. I would love to explain it but I don't completely understand how it works I just know how I have used it

With a side chain it is typically called ducking the audio so that the main audio is "above" the secondary. Again I can't explain this all that well I just now how it works and sounds it helps with.

With a second input into the VST you could use what vocal Rider has which is monitor the "music" to allow the vocal to ride above it.

In my productions this would allow hands free mixing where the vocals would automagically sound louder than the music.

+1.. sidechaining is one of around three or four audio features vMix really needs IMO..

the feature is not hard to understand.. its just using the audio from channel A as the input threshold for FX on channel B..

EG: if you have music playback and also an announcers mic.. the music plays at a certain level and then automatically lowers when someone talks into the microphone.. this is done by putting a limiter on the music and using the microphone as the sidechain source for the limiter. you set the limiter threshold to respond as the microphone exceeds a certain level.. so when the announcer is talking the limiter reacts but when there is no talking the limiter is doing nothing.. that's a very basic example but there are many more applications..

Yes, sidechaining would be somewhat nice to have.

But unfortunately vmix is not even close to a proper DAW.
As long as everything is effectively still 16bit audio processing i would not expect any more pro audio features.

Maybe some day when they will implement 24bit you can hope for more serious audio features.
To be honest the fact that VMIX has vst implementation is sort of mind blown considering the state of audio in the package as a whole.

Although a second input of VST3 plugins for side-chaining would be very useful, even more useful could it be if vMix supports "ASIO patch inserts" (like Voicemeeter) so that VST hosts like Cantabile (which support side-chaining easily) can do all the great VST plugin hosting and VST plugin wiring. This way vMix does not have to implement complex VST host functionalities, but still benefit from it by allowing dedicated apps like Cantabile or DAWs to take over the task.

I came across this script over on Reddit.

I guess more info before you click would be nice. It is a side chaining script.
