Hi,
Does anybody have any experience with more than four 4K60 inputs? Is it possible to make a reliable system with e.g. two Blackmagic Decklink 8K cards?
I'm definitely thinking Xeon or Threadripper to have enough memory bandwidth and pcie lanes.

Any tips from people with experience with this would be great!

Thanks!

Hi,

a system on socket 2066, sWRX8, LGA4677 platforms no problem
if the processor can handle as many pcie lines as the motherboard has, no problem
lots of RAM and very fast M.2 ssd, and you're good to go.

example socket 2066 :

i9-10980xe = 48 lanes pcie
ASUS WS X299 SAGE/10G motherboard = 7 pcie 3.0

1 pcie 3.0 x16 (graphic card) + 4 pcie 3.0 x8 (4 x Blackmagic Decklink 8K cards) = 48 lanes
see if the processor follows. some with more experience may confirm.
on a pcie 3.0 system, however, I'd opt for an external streaming encoder.

on Xeon and Ryzen Threadripper PRO platforms, depending on requirements and choice of processor, it should be no problem at all.

I had a test setup going a little while back and did not run into any issues, but that was only camera in for testing. Threadripper + 2x Decklink 8K Pro.

Where in Norway are you located? Maybe we should take a coffee one day :-)

Best regards,
Håvard
