Hey everyone!

I work at a live production company. For my OB van, I want a VMIX for a replay system as my boss thinks the NewTek 3play systems are way too expensive.

Now I want to build a new VMIX system but I want it to go into a 2 RU server case. The 3play system has a 2 RU design and it's much easier to switch if it needs to go into a different van or just be switched out for something different.

Now I've been looking around and I need a case that allows for a GPU with a riser cable to be installed flat into the case. So far I've not been successful.

Has, by any chance, anyone here done something similar or know where else to ask this question? I hope it's actually clear what I'm going for.

I just got a Dell Precision 3930 today. it's actually a 1RU, but its still rocking an i9, Quadro RTX 4000, Decklink DUO and has both 1G and 10G ethernet on board. i do a ton of fly pack stuff, so rack mount was a must.

Hi AudioGreg,

thaks for the hint, i was also looking for a rackserver-system for my flightcase-build. I have two questions though:
  • Are the 1 RU Server FANs very loud or is it acceptable?
  • How do you get the heat out of the flycase. Do you have adittional Case-fans installed?

Kind regards
Matthew

This may be a good starting point;
It is necessary to solve the vibration problem of the broadcast vehicle. I am very worried that passing through inferior roads will cause the equipment to fall into an uncertain failure.

The rack case I used is 20" deep, the 3930 hangs out about an inch on the rear so the exhaust is completely to open air, not the case. The case also has a shock mounted rail frame with 2-3" of air space around it inside the outer case. The only other items in this build are IP router and POE switch so not using any other fans for this one.

The fan noise is not bad most of the time, but under load it sounds like a 737 getting ready to taxi. I built this with the idea of being able to put it away from the operator, so not too concerned with noise levels.
