I am a big fan of M.2 and Linus Tech Tips just did a video on the new Intel Optane. It seems like a fast buffer drive for common tasks the computer does. I would be interested to see if it has a positive impact on vMix performance. The cost is low at $45 for 16gb and $77 for 32gb except you would need an M.2 slot. If I only had one M.2 I would not sacrifice it for this BUT if I had dual M.2 I would use it in a heartbeat. We use M2 Samsung EVO 1TB for instant replay and it works amazingly well. I have thoroughly tested with over 100 basketball games to date. Our M2 is dedicated to only replay and we use 4 camera angles every game.

I am also considering Intel Optane. The 32Gb Optane module is paired with a 2TB HDD on this Dell machine that we are looking at. https://www.dell.com/en-...tems&stp=1&cs=19Can you think of any issues with doing this? vMix might not even care if everything is handled at the OS level or hardware level. The one thing I thought of is if I record something that is more than 32GB, then the first 32GB or the recording would be really fast and then it would slow down and might put more pressure on other resources or cause the quality to change. At least, that's my theory. I'd appreciated any thoughts on this especially if you've tried vMix with Optane.

It allows a normal spinning drive to cache things and act more like an SSD but not 'really'. http://www.seagate.com/s...ions/solid-state-hybrid/If you are recording and need fast fast fast then this combo is not ideal. M.2 drives are up to 4 times faster than even the fastest SSD. My recommendation if you can afford it is a 500GB EVO 960 m.2 drive. I know there is a HUGE price difference except all the tests I have seen show the Optane is great with spinning drives and not needed for an SSD.
