Sirs,

I used vMix in the production of a weekly Hangout-on-Air. Chrome has been giving me fits with respect to audio, so I thought I'd try Firefox.

Launching a Hangout in Firefox I find that it will not "see" the vMix external video feed. It didn't even show the color bars pattern when external video was off.

Is this a known issue? Any ideas how I might find out why?

Thanks,

Michael

P.S. I'm running a current patch of Windows 10

Testing further, I see that this happens on both my Windows systems (desktop & laptop) using vMix 17 and the current release of Firefox.

Hangouts

I would expect that when external is off I would see the color bars image in the Hangout, but it never shows up. In the desktop I see only black.

In the laptop I see the built-in camera, even though the Hangout is set to see vMix video and vMix is is displaying a still image.

Jitsi Video Bridge

In frustration, I sought to see if this behavior was evident using something other than a Hangout. Since I have access to an installation of Jitsi Video Bridge I tried that. Again, source video set to vMix.

This time the color bar proxy image shows up.

This leads me to believe that there's a problem with the Google Hangouts plug-in that precludes its use with vMix. I'm taking the matter to Google.

Seems that this issue has reappeared.

Was testing Chrome (Version 58.0.3029.110) and Google Hangout earlier to confirm a report from John D that vMix External was not working. I used vMix 19.0.0.33 and it worked just fine. After an upgrade to 19.0.0.47, External Output was not recognized in GH. Tried Firefox and .47 with same result.

Hi guys,

I can confirm there is a bug in the latest Chrome where it is getting stuck selecting only the first camera in the system.
However, any relation to recent vMix updates is coincidental as there have been no changes to the external out in vMix since version 17.

I can confirm the camera selection works correctly in Firefox, so that may be something to try until Google sorts out this bug.

One thing to also note, is by default vMix will match the External Output resolution to the current streaming quality preset.
To change this behaviour, untick the Chain icon in the streaming settings, and then set the External Output size in Settings -> External Output
and restart.

Note all browser windows will need to be closed when changing the External Output or streaming quality output sizes.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Martin

*UPDATE* I can confirm changing the External Output to 1280x720 30p instead of 29.97p will work with Chrome 58 and Google hangouts.
May need to restart the computer to ensure the changes work as Chrome may still be running in the background after the change.

Some further information on the Chrome 58 changes below:

1. Chrome now needs the camera set manually from Settings as the dropdown box when clicking the Camera icon is now greyed out.
Go to Settings -> Show advanced settings -> Content Settings -> Camera to select vMix Video

2. Chrome now only selects the camera if it exactly matches the frame rate and resolution the application is requesting.
For example if Google Hangouts requests 720p30 but vMix External Output is set to 720p29.97 then it will select a different camera instead.
(Which is understandably frustrating)

@Admin

Does this new Chrome - Settings function change how one would switch cameras in vMix Call also? If so, the vMix 19 Help would need to be updated.

Update on this issue...

Using vMix 21.0.0.53 and Firefox, vMix External (vMix Video) works just fine. vMix Video External 2 only shows color bars.

How curious is this!
