hi martin,
I frequently have to crop a 16:9 desktop input to 4:3 size and use the sliders.

it would be helpfull if the slders also have a numberic input so i can crop more accurately and input the cropping size directly.

ps i guess it would be helpfull with all sliders to have a number input as well...

Yeah that would be great and the same for zooming!

It's a pain in the ass to right percentage of the desired video size. It would be much easier to just write the resolutions for x and y that you need.

It took awhile the first time, but then I figured it out. Most conversions from 4:3 to 16:9 are either 1.333 or 0.75.

Technically, the value would be 1.33333, but I like 1.35. to do so, open the camera input settings window using the cog for the input or double click the input image. Click the position tab along the left. and type 1.35 into the zoom box and close the settings window. The Zoom X and Zoom y will automatically adjust.

It's all a bit harder than that, involving "Picture Aspect Ratio" (PAR) and whether the pixels are square or rectangular.

For example PAL 4:3 is 720 x 576 - which is actually 5:4 but with a pixel ratio of 1.09.

Theoretically you would imagine that 16:9 widescreen standard definition is 1024 x 576, but the BBC specify 1050 x 576 (and a number of other companies including Adobe have followed this specification).

So increasing 720 to 1024 is 1.422, but to 1050 is 1.458.

More importantly for vMix users, Martin, what ratio do you use in to get from standard to widescreen?

And, in order to preserve space for the settings area (one still needs long sliders, and a pretty large video image to see the result) I suggest that the current text "Crop Ln" (eg "Crop X1") is replaced by "value Ln" (eg "23 X1).

Or, the cropping method can be selected as:
- slider (the way it is today)
- pixels (value box instead of slider)
- precentage (percentage box instead of slider)
